11409

German Die Cut Pressed Paper New Year Good Luck Wall Pocket This beautiful heavy pressed paper maché wall pocket was made in Germany in the early 1900s. It was likely meant as a New Year's or Christmas item given the snowy winter village scene, Good Luck motto, and subtle holly leaves decoration. It measures 12-1/2 by 13 inches, the pocket is 3 inches high.

The pocket is ornately embossed with a horseshoe curved snow-covered tree branch arched over the cut-out mica glittered words Good Luck. Three large birds sit atop the arch. Below the motto is a lovely snowy winter village scene dusted with clear sugar frost glitter. The pocket is bordered by more snowy limbs and two birds. Germany is embossed at the bottom, hidden by the pocket. It's very old but still in remarkable condition for its composition and age with no tears. There's a light water stain around the lower left edge of the scene, shown in the last photo. It's mostly hidden by the pocket. There are a few tiny scuffs here and there and the back is age darkened. Instructions for putting the pocket together without damaging the delicate tabs and edges will be included with shipment.

Victorian New Years, Christmas Postcards and Paper Items An assortment of four old post card and paper items with New Year and Christmas greetings from the early 1900s. The two New Years items are a German printed embossed postcard and a paper scrap hand mirror shape with a Victorian lady sitting among flowers. There is also a still life scene Merry Christmas postcard, and a fancy embossed and tasseled program for the K. of P. Annual Ball, held on December 30, 1904 at the Grange Hall in South Waterford Maine. K of P most likely stands for the Knights of Pythias.

The handle to the 4-3/4" high hand mirror scrap has a minor crease. The Christmas postcard has some light age soiling. Both postcards are postally unused.

10550

2 Victorian Paper Lace Overlay Valentine Cards A pair of exquisite Victorian layered paper lace Valentines. The small card is 3-5/8 by 2-3/4 inches. An embossed pale green and white die-cut layer is the base with a tiny litho print of a woman standing in an arch in the center. Framing the picture and seeming to float above the card is a delicate cut paper lace overlay with two folded hinges hidden below to raise the lace above the scene. The card opens up to reveal a romantic verse about a kiss inside. The valentine is unsigned and unmarked.

The larger card measures 6 by 4 inches. On the front is a diecut shabby rose scrap centered over a paper lace overlay depicting dancing nymphs or forest fairies. An embossed gold and white cupid is above the rose (hidden in the pictures by the rose scrap, but it extends on a folded tab to show the cupid). Below the lace overlay is the front of the card, an elaborately framed Tennyson poem. At the back side corner is a stamped mark, W over 2-1/2, no other markings. The card is unsigned. Very slight damage to the delicate lace overlay and some age soiling or discoloration on the back.

3 German Valentines Circa 1910 Three vintage children's valentines, dating from the first decade of the 1900s. The card with the little girl sitting among roses is embossed and glossy, about 3-3/4 inches high. The closeup picture shows some old adhesive that was stuck to the front but I was able to remove it without harming the graphics.

The valentine with the mail carrier dog is mechanical. The dog's head swivels to show a smiling face and a gruff face. It's 3-1/2 inches high, also printed on glossy cardstock with a stand-up post on the back.

The polar bear valentine is 4-1/4 inches long. An unpunched loop at the top with the number 5 allows the recipient to hang it from a cord or string. Or you can fold back the tabs on the bottom to make it stand up. All three valentines are signed in pencil on the backs.

5288-2

Elaborate 4 Layer Stand Up Victorian Valentine Gold Gilt Die Cut A large, gorgeous Victorian era embossed and layered pop up or stand up style Valentine, made in Germany at the turn of the last century or before. It's just under 7-3/4 inches high by nearly 5-1/2 inches wide, unfolding to reveal four separate layers. A heavily embossed gold gilt background arch at the back, then a bouquet of pink and white roses and rosebuds, in front of that two Victorian girls holding bouquets of red roses, and in front a lavish garland-draped gold gilt die cut fence gate with a red tissue honeycomb ball in front.

When folded up, the front panel is visible, decorated with violets and the phrase To my Valentine. Made in Germany is printed in the lower corner. The valentine has no writing, tears, or damage other than a single paper hinge tab where the glue has loosened. It's intact, just needs a dab of due to secure and allow the layers to stand up with the proper amount of space between them for best dimensional effect. 12573

Real Eggshell Bird Themed Hand Made Christmas Ornaments Five Mid Century Christmas ornaments made from real egg shells plus an attractive double sided die cut paper scrap ornament, all with a bird theme. The egg art ornaments are lavishly decorated with rhinestones, beads, metallic Dresden scrap trim, and ribbons.

Three ornaments have little art glass birds in nests of spun glass angel hair. One is a birdhouse with a gold cardboard roof, cut out diorama style at the front. The other two shells were transformed into nests, open at the tops with glass birds resting in the angel hair. One egg has a hand painted design of twin chickadees on a flowering branch. The small egg, just over 1-1/2" high, has gold metallic Dresden die cuts (bird in flight and flowering shrub) on each side bordered by red rhinestones and Dresden paper braid.

The last ornament is an oval or egg shape with dimensional, puffed-out yellow chicks perched above sprays of flowers - blue on one side, pink on the other. The elaborate die cut gold foil scrap frame is decorated with tiny faux half-pearls and blue glass stones. This ornament is about 3-1/4 inches high. The ornaments all have gold cord or clear nylon securely attached for hanging. Too pretty to bring out just at Christmas, they also make perfect Easter or seasonal spring time decorations.

11855

Westmoreland Opal Glass Hatching Chick Covered Basket Mustard Jar This opal or milk glass covered basket was actually a mustard container, first produced by Westmoreland Glass in 1902. This is the earliest version of the basket with the chick emerging from an egg lid, later versions featured a hen on the lid or a plaque/panel on one side for decoration.

The basket is about 4 inches high to the tops of the two rope handles by 5-1/4" long and 4-1/4" deep. The lid depicts a baby chick hatching from an egg. The chick's head is painted gold, as is the "straw" around the rim. The center of the basket is painted red, the rim, handles, and base are gold. The red paint shows some typical wear, the gold is still very good. The underside is marked with a cross symbol surrounded by woven basket reeds.

Both the basket dish and the lid are in marvelous condition for their age. There are no chips, nicks, or flakes to the glass and the paint show much less than typical wear.
