Large Tavern Santa Claus Christmas Candle With Box An earlier novelty figural wax candle by Tavern, Socony-Vacuum Oil Company, circa 1940s. It's Santa Claus, all red dipped with white beard and fur trim, painted green mittens, and black eyes. The nearly 7 inch tall candle is unlit and in good condition with a few rubs and scuff marks consistent with age. The printed cardboard base has a grease pencil price code on the underside. The candle was found wrapped in wax paper and stored in a Tavern candle box, but it's not original as the label says the box is for the No. 753 Snow Man. Box is in good condition with light age and storage wear, one tear in the center of the side lid flap.

4 Chalkware Plaster Santa Claus Figures or Christmas Ornaments This is an old set of hand painted chalkware plaster flat-backed Santa Claus figures, 3 inches high. They have flat backs but do stand upright by themselves. They were probably used as Christmas tree ornaments as one still has a bent steel hairpin hook embedded in the back. The hooks have been removed or broken off the other three. The Santas are in good vintage condition with a few small flakes to the tops and bottoms. They have a great folk art look and probably date to the 1940s or 1950s.

5 Enesco Christmas Ornaments From The 1980s Here's an assortment of five vintage Enesco Christmas ornaments dated 1982 to 1985. The ceramic skier ornament shown in the first photo was discovered to have a broken ski after I took the photos, but I will include it with shipment if the buyer wants it.

There are two 3-1/2" ornaments featuring owls on red stools holding blackboards and wearing eyeglasses. These are from 1982, titled Merry Christmas Teacher. The letting on the blackboard has been blacked out with marker.

The ceramic little girl in pigtails riding a wood and metal sled ornament is Katie from the Country Cousins series, dated 1985.

I don't know the name of the clip ornament with two kissing cardinals and a bottle brush tree in a nest, but it's dated 1984.

The 2-3/4" oval tin ornament features Lucy and Me bears on the lid and is dated 1985. Inside are two extra red satin bows with gold cord hangers like the one shown. All five ornaments are in good vintage condition but do not come with boxes.

Crystal Acrylic Beaded Tea Ball Chandelier Christmas Ornament This vintage hand crafted beaded Christmas ornament was made using a small aluminum tea ball strainer as the base, decorated chandelier-style with faceted clear acrylic beads, small gold beads, gold braid, and white sequins. The top should unscrew but it's fairly tight and I did not want to damage the beads trying to remove it - it can hold potpourri, treats, or small gifts. The ornament is about 6 inches long including the beaded top loop and is in excellent condition.

1950s Twinkler Blue Star Spinner Christmas Motion Ornament This 3-1/2" star twinkler motion ornament is from the 1950s and bears a patent number that dates to 1956. When hung above a Christmas tree light bulb, the heat causes the metal blades inside to whirl and spin. It's made of bright blue glittered plastic, with a transparent plastic cage or drum to protect the gold colored metal spinning mechanism. It works just fine - I tested it by holding the star in front of my space heater. Made in the USA by Twinkle Toy and guaranteed vintage.

7569

12 Shiny Brite 1930s Glass Shapes Christmas Ornaments These silvered glass American made Christmas ornaments were produced in the 1930s into the mid 1940s. All but two have metal Shiny Brite caps, and one of those is a known Shiny Brite shape. They are solid colored shapes and figurals, some of which were only made for a short time. The colors are mostly bright primary shades of red, blue, green, and gold. One is pink and two are more muted shades of blue and green.

The ornaments are 2 to 2-1/2" high. The shapes include an acorn, a concentric ringed tree or top, a lobed nut or fruit, barrel or accordion, and several styles of lanterns (all different). The only shape that is repeated among the ornaments are the 3 round with Saturn rings. The ornaments are in good condition with no chips or breaks and only light finish wear or age spotting. Some have some inner silvering loss, most notably the green nut ornament which is almost transparent. They come in a plain red box bottom with no lid.

7566

2 USA 1930s Beaded Paneled Bells Glass Christmas Ornaments These two American made figural glass Christmas ornaments are in an uncommon beaded, paneled bell or lantern shape, made from the late 1930s to the early 1940s and discontinued before the end of the war. They're about 3" high and have unusual white painted flower and dot decorations around the lower sides.

One is bright metallic blue, the other chartreuse. If you hold the ornaments up to strong light, you can see a slight semi-transparency caused by natural loss of the inner silvering. The painted finish is strong and vibrant on both however, so the mercury deterioration isn't noticeable at all. The blue ornament has some flaked-off paint around the neck below the cap a a couple small scratches near the bottom. Both metal caps are marked Made In U.S. of A. - I love how they used to put the "of" in there.

7567

3 Shiny Brite Unsilvered War Era Ringed Glass UFO Top Ornaments Whether you call them tops, lanterns, tornados, UFOs, or something else, these classic Shiny Brite Christmas ornament shapes are instantly recognizable. They're about 3" high with transparent colored and white mica glitter horizontal stripes on the tops and staggered rings. These ornaments are from the 1940s World War II years, unsilvered. The colors are green and dark pink (or light red) over clear glass.

The ornaments are in good condition with no chips or breaks but there is wear to the white mica glitter on all three, and some scratches to the transparent colors - nothing unexpected for ornaments that have seen 65 Christmas seasons. I've shown the worst side of all three in the photograph.

Pink Bear With Muff 1930s German Glass Christmas Ornament This old German 3-1/2" standing bear with muff glass Christmas ornament is shown in the Lightner Christmas Rarities book with a value of $100 - $125. The ornament has a pink finish, the muff is silver with pink paint which is flaking. Sparse remnants of white mica remain on top of the muff but most of it is gone. Little remains of the original eye paint. The top and bottom of the ornament are near transparent when held to the light, a result of natural deterioration of the inner mercury silvering. No chips or breaks. The metal cap is marked Germany.

7564

Bradford Magic Mirror Hidden Lighted Angel Christmas Tree Topper This very cool and very scarce lighted Christmas star tree topper was made by Bradford Novelty in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It comes in its original package, which calls it The Magic Mirror Christmas Tree Top "An Amazing Display of Infinite Starlight When Fully Lit".

The front is a 3-dimensional 5-point gold plastic star with mirror-effect center, about 11" high. Nice enough when unlit, but the magic comes when you plug the cord in - an angel appears in the center of the star, brilliantly reflected in the refracted mirror-effect lighted interior. You really cannot see the angel at all until the topper is lit up.

The topper works fine though one bulb is either burned out or needs to be screwed all the way in. The back of the box gives instructions for replacing the bulbs. The back panel of the star has been taped - I'm not sure why or even if this is necessary, because it snaps together and I can't see any breaks. The plug is the old fashioned non-polarized type but both plug and cord are in good condition with no damage. The box has quite a bit of storage wear but is intact with the exception of the cellophane window, which has been taped all the way around the opening. This decoration was made for a very short period of time and is very hard to find.

7563

Merry Glow 1960s Lighted Rotating Electric Christmas Tree Topper This is a hard-to-find 1960s Merry Glow Christmas lighted motion tree top in its original box. When plugged in, the center spins and rotates, casting off twinkling starbursts of light. Unfortunately the fantastic effect is impossible to capture in still photography - you have to see it in person.

The gold-glitter encrusted topper with chartreuse and yellow spinner and frame is 10-1/4" high not including the light bulb base. It works fine but is in used condition and does show minor wear. The clear plastic bulb holder above the four prong base is very slightly heat warped - I have not seen one that wasn't, and this one isn't as bad as most. The bulb socket is fine though and as you can see the insert fits and the bulb still works (though when it stops working you simply replace it with any C-7 style bulb, it doesn't require a special type).

The 70 inch cord is in good condition with no breaks, splits or brittleness, though it does have the old fashioned non-polarized type of plug. The box is in poor condition with the bottom flaps torn away. It does provide protection and storage for the tree top however and is authentic. Merry Glow remakes abound and even they are expensive but the real, original ones are hard to find and quite desirable.

7562

National Tinsel Spun Glass Halo Angel Tree Topper in Box A lovely, old fashioned angel scrap Christmas tree top made by National Tinsel. This is the early, original version made in the 1930s. It's about 8" diameter, with a paper scrap angel face amid clouds of curly angel hair and a scalloped halo of spun glass fibers. She has gold foil scrap wings and is surrounded by five gold foil stars. This early version has a paper scrap Santa Claus on the back and a steel coiled spring base which attaches to the tree instead of the more common cardboard cone fitting. I've only seen a few like this, I think the company decided early on to switch to more economical cardboard cones and that gold stars on the back were more appropriate to the celestial theme.

The thick litho paper angel is a little distorted as shown - this is probably from the glue used on the back and is quite common. One gold wing tip is torn. The curly angel hair cloud is lush and full without any snarling, snags or pulls though you can see some of the old yellowed glue behind the cloud. The spun glass halo has some normal thinning and loose fibers but appears to be firmly attached. The box is in pretty good shape for its age but does have use and storage wear at the flaps and corners. The Santa decoration on the back is taped and has some snags and tears where the steel fitting has rubbed and worn against the paper over the years.

7560

Banthrico Metal Sleeping Santa Claus Christmas Advertising Coin Bank This vintage painted metal Santa Claus coin bank was made by Banthrico as an advertising premium for banks across the country, probably as a free premium for opening a Christmas club or savings account. This one was made for Wichita (Kansas) Federal Savings and Loan Association as printed on the back of Santa's chair.

The bank is 6 inches high by about 5 inches wide and depicts Santa snoozing in a stuffed easy chair. It probably dates to the late 1940s - early 1950s. There is some flaking of the enameled paint as shown but it's not bad. The bottom plate and all screws are intact - you access the coins by unscrewing the bottom panel.

German Fancy Pear Apple Core Glass Christmas Ornaments This set of three fancy ribbed finial Christmas ornaments resemble fruit cores - more like pears than apples with their spiked points at the bottoms and hourglass shapes. They are 4-1/4" to 4-1/2" high, made of thin silvered blown glass decorated with stripes and bands of green, rust, and yellow with white comma-stroke painted leaves at the tops. The silvering is in great condition but there is some crazing or crackling to the colored finish though it isn't chipped or flaking off. The ornament with the green top has some wear to the yellow painted stripes. All three ornaments have metal caps marked Germany - these were made before 1940.
