3 Antique German Composition Fruit Christmas Ornaments A carrot and two pears antique German composition Christmas ornaments from Germany. They're less than 2 inches high with wire hangers at the tops and come with old steel shepherd's crook ornament hangers. The green and red pear and red carrot appear to be lacquered spun cotton or paper maché. Both have typical age crazing to the paint and are coated in a light sugar glitter glaze. The yellow and pink pear is more firm, possibly clay or plaster, and is completely covered in Venetian Dew (tiny clear bead glitter). All three ornaments are in very good condition for their age.

10676

Boy Angel Paper Scrap and Tinsel Antique Christmas Ornament A large antique embossed paper scrap and tinsel Christmas ornament featuring a curly haired boy angel holding a horn cornucopia filled with roses in one arm, a bell in his other hand. He stands on a white scrolly ribbon banner with a candle-lit tree at one side. The angel may in fact be a girl but the tunic style short sleeve gown looks more boyish to me. He has long white wings at his back, but clear red cellophane-type wings have been added at the sides. The angel is framed in clover shape wired gold feather tinsel, a spray of fine gold tinsel strands above his head and hanging tassel-like at the bottom.

The ornament is 10-3/4 inches long overall by 6-1/5" wide. The stiff paperboard back piece is marked in pencil with what looks like 4¢. There are two tiny brown stains or spots at the inner right side of the lower ribbon banner and a small tear at the center right side of the Christmas tree. The litho print is embossed, glossy, and fairly heavy, somewhat darkened with age at the back. I doubt the ornament is Victorian but should date from around 1910 to the early 1920s.

Click for more detail...

11430

6 Christmas Putz Pinecone Chenille Gnomes Dwarfs Elves Figures Whether you call them gnomes, elves, or dwarfs, these charming pine cone, chenille, and spun cotton figures were popular dimestore Christmas decorations from the 1930s through 1950s. Kids, pets, and handling through the years were hard on the fragile gnomes though, and those that have survived in good condition are now very sought-after collectibles.

The gnomes average about 3 inches high and are marked Japan. Four have molded clay faces, two have plastic faces with hand painted features. Four have pinecone bodies, one sits on a pinecone. Most show some wear from age and use: the elf with cymbals is missing many of the cone tips, the red spun cotton elf has some dark spots to the back of his hat and lower body, the green hat elf is missing some face paint, and one elf's face is oddly ghost-white instead of pink or flesh colored.

Click for more detail...

11170

1940s Nativity Scene Christmas Ornament Light Cover Mint in Box This neat combination light cover and Christmas tree ornament is a 3-dimensional Nativity manger scene, 5 inches wide by 3-5/8" high. Inside the foil-covered cardboard stable are chalkware figures of Mary, Joseph, and the newborn Baby Jesus. A hole in the back wall allows you to insert a bulb from your Christmas light string to illuminate the scene. Clear coconut snow glitter covers the roof, and a star cutout below the roof allows light to come through.

The stable has some glue drips from manufacture below the roof line but is still shiny and clean, undoubtedly never used. The box has old clear tape on one edge, otherwise it's in good condition. Instructions for use are printed on one end, this is printed on another: "The New Tree Ornament, This Nativity scene of Mary, Joseph, and the Christ Child with light shining down on the Babe in the manger is a new and sparkling creation in Christmas tree decorations". There are no manufacturer markings on the box or ornament, only a 25 cent price stamp. It was made in America in the 1930s or 1940s based on ornament and box design, plus the fact it was made for use with the old smaller base C-6 light bulbs.

Ceramic Pixie Girl With Rhinestone Eyes Christmas Ornaments These two adorable ceramic Christmas ornaments are little blond pixie-like girls in red footed pajama suits and caps with spaghetti fur pompoms. Their eyes and jammie buttons are clear rhinestones - one button stone is missing as shown but should be easy to replace (or ignore). The children are 4 inches tall and have one hand raised to their cheeks. Each has a paper Japan sticker on the underside of one foot. You can remove the red rayon cord ornament hangers to display them as figurines if you like. Some mild crazing to their faces, otherwise no damage aside from the missing rhinestone button. Price is for the pair.
