9813

SUPERB ANTIQUE ROYAL BAYREUTH SCENIC LADY w FAN VASE From a local estate comes this terrific Royal Bayreuth vase. Measuring approximately 5" by 4 1/4", I am not sure of its exact date, though I estimate it to be at least from the 1920s or 30s.

The charming porcelain vase is beautifully styled in an urn shaped design. It's marked on the bottom as follows:

Royal Bayreuth

Underneath the maker's name is a "P" and a "T" each in a shield.

On one side of the vase is a beautiful scene of a Victorian woman. She's quite lovely wearing her large pre Gibson Girl styled hat and rust colored dress with a white shawl. She's holding a fan and standing in a filed of pastel colored flowers and ferns with an incredible yellow sunset in the horizon. The backside of the vase simply has a lavendar fading into a beige background.

Please bear with my pictures as it was hard to truly capture the essense of this highly collectible piece.

The vase is what I would consider near mint...no damage, no repair. The lovely soft decorations are intact and unfaded, with no apparent wear other than the most minor scratching of the finish where the woman's hair is on her shoulder. I've included a view to illustrate this tiny flaw, which, in my opinion, does not detract fromthe overall look and beauty of this charming find. Surely a welcomed addition to the most advanced of collections, why not add this one to yours today?

Click for more detail...

5133

1885 HAND PAINTED VICTORIAN FRUIT MOTIF BERRY BOWLS I purchased these from the grand daughter of the artist. There are 5 little miniature bowls, little fruit bowls I believe, and each one measures about 4 3/4" in diameter. Each bowl is signed on the back by M.C.P. Watson (The "P" was for Prentiss, but she got married to a Mr. Watson).

These are all CFH china, that I believe is a Limoges Haviland company. The porcelain was sold blank for porcelain artists.

Each bowl has a different fruit or fruits...a peach, cherrries, grapes, straberries, and what appears to be an apple or orange.

Lovely, quaint, somewhat whimsical. Four of them are in perfect condition, while the bowl with the grapes as a nick on the edge. Priced accordingly, this is a very unique and original set.

Click for more detail...

9829

1885 HAND PAINTED HAVILAND LIDDED SUGAR CONTAINER This is superb! I purchased this years ago from the great granddaughter of the original painter of this piece. The porcelain lidded dish was made by Haviland (in France) but sold as a black to porcelain and china painters. It's stamped CFH on the bottom and also has a cursive "L" incised into it.

The artist signed this M.C.P. Watson 1885.

The painting is superb. One side has pink flowers, each flower with realistic and beautifully detailed, I believe they are dogwoods. One the other side is another lovely flower with a butterfly in amazing detail.

Perhaps the coolest thing about this is that the artist painted ants on the lid! A bit of whimsy, perhaps to indicate that this was meant to house sugar and the ants would be trying to get to the sweetness!

The sugar container has two little handles and a fitted lid. It is in impeccable condition, authentic and Victorian and like new! Not a nick or a chip or a hairline or a repair. Rare indeed!

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 5462: ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ARTIST SIGNED WILDFLOWER CFH PLATES

Click for more detail...

5462

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ARTIST SIGNED WILDFLOWER CFH PLATES From the heirs of the actual artist, this rare pair of hand painted China porcelain plates were painted by the same woman in 1883 and 1885. Each one measures about 7 3/8" in diameter and they are marked CFH for "Charles Field Haviland". Some of the pieces I've seen also has the initials "GDM", but these were sold as blanks and women (generally speaking) would paint them. The quality of these is such that they have an excellent translucense; if you hold this plate to the light you can see the shadow of your fingers behind it.

The first plate is signed "Mattie C. Prentis 1883" in gold paint. Mattie was still unmarried and was born to a wealthy northern family. The plate shows purple flowers, possibly violets, or perhaps other flowers. Behind each flower is a small bunch of ferns and folliage. They are very well done, some of the best porcelain painting I've ever seen!

The second plate is signed "M.C.P. Watson 1885". Mattie married by then and was now a Watson. Her paint style, while already wonderful, had become even more refined and skilled, in my opinion. The bouquet this time was even more spectacular than the other, a single flower in the center, also purple, with a large yellow center section. It is some sort of daisy, I believe. This arrangement shows more ferns and thistle type plants. The green leaves reach out onto the border of the plate; a study in naturalistic art and botany & botanicals.

In EXCELLENT condition, these plates have been well taken care of all these years and are MINT, free of damage or repair. Finer than any botanical print and more unique than a flower arrangement, these are definitely NOT to be missed! Only passed down through generations of family members, these have been in the same family for 120 years!

ANTIQUE SIGNED HANDPAINTED EVERETT STUDIO FLORAL PLATE Just in from a private estate comes this terrific porcelain plate, measuring 6 3/8" in diameter. Marked on the bottom as follows:

HAND PAINTED
EVERETT
STUDIO
KANSAS
CITY

It's signed by JAKARA or JAKANA, so it's more than likely done by Japanese artist. The plate appears to be from the 1920s or 30s, and it is beautifully hand painted in muted airbrushed hues of green, orange, and yellow, with a lovely floral design at the bottom.

In excellent condition, the plate is completely free of chipping, damages, or repairs. The painting is unfaded with wear to the gold border, though not in the least bit detracting to the charming design. Sure to be lovely at your next party, in your china cabinet or decorating your wall, why not grab this sweet treasure now?

5465

PFALTZGRAFF VILLAGE UTENSILS CROCK SPOONER VASE This auction is for a Pfaltzgraff Utensil holder in the Village pattern. It measures approximately 6" high with a bottom diameter of around 5 1/2" wide, tapering inward to a top diameter of about 4 4 1/4'

It's glazed a matte cream background with brown trim and "Utensils" surrounded by the Village design on the front. It would also serve as a nice spooner to be kept on your kitchen counter. On the side is a very faint vertical hairline. It cannot be seen unless you are really looking for it...from the inside it's evident, and I believe this was probably a factory flaw that has finally started to show a bit through to the other side.
