Old Cast Iron Hand Painted Punch Doorstop This cast iron Punch doorstop is cold painted in polychrome pigments.Mr. Punch is a well known character in folklore and popular culture, with origins dating back to about 1300, in the Commedia dell 'Arte brought by troupes of actors from Italy to the rest of Europe. The Italian story book figure of a Pulcinella was transformed into Mr. Punch in England, who was joined by a wife, Judy, and by 1700 the Punch and Judy show had become an English tradition. This doorstop measures approx. 12 inches height and 9 inches width. In excellent condition.
