Tariff Reform: 1892 Election Issue
William M. Springer, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois, is author of Tariff Reform: The Paramount Issue. Published in 1892 by Charles L. Webster, the book deals with the author's speeches and writings on questions involving the U.S. Presidential Election of 1892. Topics include Foreign trade, Tariffs, and the Election itself.

The book has 420 pages and includes several portraits of contemporary politicians. Condition is Good-, with loose pages and some worn edges on inside pages; covers scuffed, edges/corners worn. Book is ex lib with the usual library markings.

We see many reprints and 'print on demand' books for sale these days ... but we believe it's difficult in most instances to do better than the original version! Pages are where they should be ... and the photos and other illustrations are always included in the books we sell. Some of our books are ex lib (withdrawn from a library), but unless otherwise noted in our descriptions, these have no library-related damage beyond the usual library markings and card pockets. This book is one of those originals! IT'S NOT A REPRINT!

1863 Annals of Iowa, Volume One
This impressive looking 192-page hardbound book is titled The Annals of Iowa, Volume One - 1863 and is an offset reprint of the first historical quarterly published by The State Historical Society of Iowa, Iowa City. Featuring an historical introduction by longtime Iowa historian William J. Petersen, this was published by the Society in 1964 to commemorate the centennial of the first publication.

The volume includes an in-depth account of how the Society was founded, followed by some wonderfully detailed history of the state in the mid-1800s.

There are full-page portraits of Willard Barrows, who wrote a history of Scott County, Iowa; George Davenport, the first white person born in this region in 1817; and Antoine Le Claire, who worked extensively with the Native American populations in the part of the state.
Their memoirs are filled with detail and with wonderful information of their times, and the book includes a complete index to names, places, and events.

The book is obviously an important record of the state's past. It is in Very Good condition, although ex lib from a local library. A card pocket remains inside the front cover. Inside pages are clean and crisp There is residue from a price tag on the front endpaper. The dust jacket is present, in Good+ condition with some minor edge wear and some fading on the edges. It's a nice looking book, and if Iowa history is one of your interests, you'll want this on your shelf! (2282/rVrev813)

by Fisher, Sydney N. - Editor

1955, Ithaca: Cornell Univ Press
