Depression glass was the relatively inexpensive transparent tableware which was produced in crystal, blue, green, pink, milky-white, etc., colors, primarily by machine, and sold or given away during (or very near) the years of the Great Depression (late 1920-1930). At that time few Americans had the money to buy tableware, and glass factories machine-pressed in large quantities at a cost that was low enough to allow Americans to buy and for merchants to give away as promotional items. Color helped to conceal the impurities and minute flaws in the glassware. When examining some of the pieces notice that the color is deepest where the glass is thicker. This gives the glassware its special appeal

T-8289

Fry Glass Thistle Pattern Champagne Glasses Fry Glass Vertical Optic Champagne Glasses. These 5 rare pink pre-depression stem wine, champagne or sherbet glasses are done in the Thistle Pattern by Fry Glass Co. This pattern features a lovely etched leaves pattern. During the Prohibition Era glass manufacturers would call such stemware sherbet glasses when in fact they were used for wine or champagne. Each glass measures 5" tall with 3-1/2" opening on top. Due to age and lots of use, all 5 have numerous chips on the top rim and/or on the stem base. We have tried to take some pictures of the chips. Despite their flaws, they will display well in any pink depression glass collection and we believe that these chips could be buffed out nicely.
