Civil War Find. Hardee Brass Eagle. Hat Badge A nice original brass Hardee Hat War Eagle badge or insignia that got its name from Judge William Hardee, a member of the Officer's Council who adopted the new style hat this badge was used on. When the Civil War broke out, Judge Hardee, a southern loyalist, joined the Confederacy and served as a General in the Confederate Army. This badge has a wonderful age patina and shows very little damage. It is missing on of its two fastening pins off the back, but more than makes up for the missing pin with its high condition.

brs2pltcnn

Civil War 2nd Cavalry Brass Regiment ID Cannon tag. I believe this to be an ID tag that would have been fastened to the wooded frame of a cannon or caisson to signify the unit it belonged with. In this case i am fairly sure that this 4 3/4 by 2 1/2 inch, hand hammered brass oval plate was attached to one of the smaller sized cannon used by Cavalry regiments, thus the fancy number 2 on the oval tag would mean this piece came from a piece of military hardware belonging to the 2nd Union Cavalry.
The plate is a rare enough piece by itself, but what I find most interesting about it is what I am able to see on it's back. Perhaps my eyes are playing tricks on me, but there seem to be quite a few markings and letters, badly worn, but still partially visible. Please take a look at the photos to see if you can see them too. :) Ships Free

Civil War Confederate buckle for blanket roll Here is a very nice Civil War blanket roll buckle as seen in the collectors encylopedia of the CIVIL WAR By Lords.
Although these buckle covers were originally used as part of the Cavalry's saddle gear, the Lords book gives reference to it also being used frequently by the Confederate soldiers as part of their binding for their blankets. This is a very good looking, mellow age patina'd piece and is also in quite nice condition.

ovm1a

Recovered Civil War box plate. OVM Ohio Vol. Militia a part of JM's collection for more than 20 years, this old brass oval marked with the letters, OVM is an original brass cartridge box plate marked with the letters that identify it as of the Ohio Volunteer Militia. This box plate
is from a letter cartridge box carried in the time of the Civil War by Ohio infantry troops. The OVM plate was dug near Harper's Ferry and must have come loose from its backing of lead because only the brass face remains. The plate shows a lot of age and wear, but will still make a fine display piece. One very interesting thing is that there appears to be some other markings or lettering just above the OVM. I can not tell what it is but if you have a copy of the Kerksis book Plates and Buckles of the American Military, he pictures this same type plate and you can see the same odd looking markings on his as I mentioned can be seen on this piece. I have included a scan of the kereksis plate from page145.

Rare Photographer's Dark Room Oil Lantern C1900 Here is a very unusual old oil lantern from the early 1900's. This old lamp is a photographer's Dark Room lamp. It is in quite nice condition for its age and comes complete with a darkening shutter, and a red glass lens. The lens has turned to more of an orange color over time, but the glass is original and in good shape. The lamp was made by the RO&C co. and is called a Universal No'2. This information is found on the black out shutter. There is even an adjustable draft vent on the top and what is really rare, the filler cap, wick, burner and even the latch that holds the lamp shut are all in good working order. There is a finger loop for carrying the lamp too.
If you have someone special who is also into photography, this little old lamp would make a great gift.

Smaller sized Antique Hanging Oil Lamp. Come see.. This lovely antique Victorian hanging oil or kerosene lamp is one of the few we are fortunate to find in a smaller than usual size. That doesn't mean this is a dollhouse lamp. The beautiful cream colored shade is 10 inches wide and is reverse painted in a unique and stunning style. The reverse painting has preserved the artwork far better than if it had been painted on the outer surface. The soft cream shade is frosted with a satin look that goes very well with the lamp's polished brass frame. There was no font with the lamp so we had to do a little digging to find one suitable for this lamp. I think the opalescent hobnail piece we chose is a wonderful match to the accent colors used on the shade. Total height from the cross bar to the bottom is 39 inches, but can be lengthened or shortened depending on where you plan to use it. It is not nearly often enough that we are able to offer a gorgeous hanging lamp in a size that will work where the large 14 inch shades are simply too big. I doubt this lamp will be around very long, so if you love it, buy it now. :)

Contemporary Crystal & Glass 7 Light Chandelier. Wow

When I first began putting the pieces of this vintage crystal and glass ceiling fixture together, I wasn't sure if all the parts were even there. Fortunately I did have all the pieces and was quite pleased that not a single piece of amber beveled and etched glass, or a solitary swizzle stick style glass crystal showed any sign of damage. Then I turned the lights on and I think when you look at the photos I've included, you'll get some idea of how impressive this gorgeous mid century light really is. The glass panels are aligned in these photos, but I see no reason why a person couldn't stagger the top and bottom sequence. That would completely change the look of this stunning ceiling fixture and make your guests wonder how you could find yet another incredibly striking chandelier. "I won't tell."
The actually light measures a bit over 16 inches high by 16 wide and with two feet of brass chain, you can pretty much make the height match the room you choose. Rewired, checked and tested and ready to go. This stunning contemporary beauty is going to be quite the attention getter in someone's home.

Vintage pair Art Deco Chrome & Rib'd Glass wall sconces Here is a gorgeous pair of vintage Art Deco wall sconces in sparkling chrome and old ribbed white milk glass that are absolutely beautiful . The shades are deeply cut glass with V shaped etched lines running both vertical and horizontal. The effect of the etched lines really adds style to the thick white glass. Equally impressive are the two wonderful chrome sconces which have been repaired and refurbished and are in perfect working order. The chrome has not been polished, only gently wiped down. Look closely and you can see there is only the tiniest of pin prick spots that will easily polish out with only a little chrome polish and a very minimal amount of effort. No rust anywhere and the thick, heavy shades have only a few minor flea bites around their top rims and one has a chip out of the fitter, which doesn't effect the looks or the function at all. If you are looking for the perfect pair of 50's retro wall lights to finish off your Art Deco project, here they are. Don't let these beauties slip away.
Twist on and off switches on each plus one two prong outlet on one unit. Fixtures are roughly 3 1/2 x 5 inches, not counting the shades.

Victorian Chandelier Brass & 6 lighted Custard Shades

There are times when a particular item is so special, I struggle to find words to describe it. This is one of those times. The antique custard slip shades are all cut to clearm adding a wonderful three dimensional look to the already gorgeous group of five vintage shades. The sparkling brass fixture reflects the light like a thousand tiny mirrors and then there is the hanging pendant shade. This ten inch diameter shade is the single most beautiful vintage glass shade I have ever seen. The piece is a somewhat different style and its color is slightly deeper or darker or something else? What ever it is , I find it wonderfully appealing. I think you'll agree. The lovely Victorian chandelier measures 22 inches wide and 26 inches tall not counting from the chain up. I have added 24inches of solid brass chain and will be happy to adjust the lamp to your dimensions, so please try to let me know when you make your payment. Oh yeah, I even have a spare slip shade to send along free of charge. Its a perfect match and would fit right in if ever an accident takes place.

M14BFsta

Miller Victorian Hanging Oil Lamp - Cherubs & Angels This Victorian hanging oil lamp has been carefully restored and is once again ready to grace a room in someone's home. The 13 3/4 inch Champagne glass shade is cased on the inside in white and is in fine condition. Then there are the angels adorning the shade ring and the three Victorian ladies standing upon the framing. The burner and font were made by Miller and have also been given the once over to make sure everything is ready, so all you need to do is add the oil and wait several minutes for it to find its way up the wick and in no time at all you can be enjoying the soft glowing light that seems almost to whisper of another time and place.
This fine Victorian oil lamp is very heavy and required an equally weighty counterbalance. The weight is contained inside the smoke bell and operating the mechanism to raise and lower the lamp may take a little to get used to, but in no time at all you'll have it mastered.
This large, lovely antique lamp will take a large and heavy box to ship it, but we will do our best to keep the cost down while ensuring the lamp arrives safely at its new home.

CSCBP60

CS Confederate cartridge box or belt plate I am fairly certain this piece is a Confederate cartridge box plate. Cartridge box plates were made using the same die as was used to make the belt plates. Perhaps I am not seeing the marks on the back of this old brass plate, but what I do see is a pattern I would expect on a box plate, not a belt plate. The final guess will have to be left to the new owner. I'm a little too long the Photos and information about this cartridge box plate can be found in the reference book by Sydney Kerksis entitled, Plates and Buckles of the American Military 1795 to 1874. It is pictured as a buckle on page 277 and identified as figure 270, but generally the same dies used for buckles were also used for the box plates. I could be wrong and perhaps this is actually a belt buckle plate, but either way it is one I bought almost thirty years ago at a roadside flea market south of Frederick on the way to Charleston W.Va. If I had been able to afford all the things I wanted from so many different places. Guess I didn't make it, because here I am.
