Confederate Marked. US 1842 Musket - Harper's Ferry WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE NOTE: WE CAN NOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL FOR ANY OF OUR ANTIQUE FIREARMS. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. THANK YOU. JM

Through the years, I have become extremely attached to my gun collection, but I simply cannot keep every gun I buy, so after many, many years serving as one of the highlights of my collection, I am offering this very special piece of Civil War History for sale. I will miss this fine old rifle. It is a US model 1842 which was made, as marked, at Harpers Ferry in 1850. The date and maker marks are very good; it is the Union marking of an eagle and heavy use and the effects of time have worn the U.S. stamped beneath it that away. The eagle is still visible as is the US mark, but that is where this gun becomes unique. It takes a high-powered magnifier and a sharp eye to see the changes that were made by someone long ago, but they are there. I have no way of photographing an actual magnified close up, but I think if you look closely at the lock photos below, you will see how the top of the U. was carefully scraped and scratched into the shape of a C. I truly believe a Confederate Infantry Soldier carried this musket during the Civil War. The gun has all the correct markings and although it is worn down, the stock still bears the US Inspector's Cartouches that were stamped there in 1850 at Harpers Ferry Armory. Perhaps the soldier was originally with the Federal Army, but chose to join his southern brothers when the war began. The other telltale sign that this gun was used by someone other than a Union soldier is the fact that the stock bears the hand carved initials JHB. It is unlikely a union infantryman would have been allowed to deface his weapon in such a way. Doing so was frowned upon by the commanding officers of the North and would have earned the young man a rather harsh punishment in most cases. As you can see in the pictures, the rest of this rifle is in very good shape for its age and other than the ramrod, which I added because the original was missing, everything you see is original to this old infantry musket. If you want to own a piece of Civil War History that will be an absolute eye opening thrill to those fortunate enough to see it, this my friend is just what you are looking for. Please ask any questions you may have before placing an order for this rifle. I want to make certain the buyer is certain about everything before making their purchase. This gun should not have to travel more than need be. Even with the best packaging, risking something so rare and unique is not something I like to do. JM

This is an an excellent old barn find. A beautiful white milk glass moon and stars lightning rod ball
in very good condition. It is hard to see in the photos, but the sun has actually caused some shading to this ball that gives it an amethyst tint. There is some wear around the collars, but the copper caps are more than enough to keep that problem covered and safe. Measurement on this ball 4 1/2" round x 5 1/2 " end to end. Once you've decided on where to display this classic old piece of Americana, think about putting a tiny light up inside of it. I think you'll love how they glow.

Click for more detail...
1890rem44a

Antique Remington SA 44 Revolver Model 1890 - C1893 Remington model 1890, SA Army Revolver. One of only 2020 model 1890's ever made. Produced as a successor to Remington's model 1875, these single action army models were made to compete with the wildly popular Colt SAA. Remington's dreams of competing with the Colt SA revolvers never materialized and for that reason the model 1890 Remington Army, which was first introduced in 1891, was discontinued in 1896. The fact that only approximately 2000 guns of this model were made was unfortunate for Remington, but due to their misfortune, this very well made revolver is now one of the most sought after and prized of all Remington handguns. I have always been a Colt man, but in my opinion, this Remington SA Army is equal to the Colt SA Army in every possible way.

The fit, feel and function of this antique revolver are all testaments to the quality of craftsmanship and effort that went into the design. I have several Remington models 1875, and can say without a doubt that the 1890 model shows huge improvements. Remington actually achieved their goal of producing a fitting competitor for the Colt pistols, but the country was shrinking. The days of the Wild Wild West were coming to a close and Remington's effort to compete with Colt simply came too late.

Of those 2000 or so model 1890's made, only a handful remain that can come close to matching the beauty and functionality of this particular revolver. Original in all ways, this 44 40-center fire six-shooter is as good as they get. Not perfect, pristine or bought and then locked away in a drawer for over 100 years, this gun has been there and seen plenty, but whoever used it, new how to take care of a sidearm. The gun has almost no pitting at all and very little in the way of mishandling marks. Yes it is worn, but worn smoothly and no worn enough to ruin the Remington markings or the tight, crisp function of its mechanisms. The factory installed 5 1/2 inch barrel has strong rifling and minimal pitting and shoots strait as an arrow.

The lock up is tight and true. In other words, the gun is a dream to shoot. The grips are worn smooth, and have some areas where they have been repaired, but they are the originals and the Remington logo is still visible, plus they fit tight and just plain feels good in your hand. Traces of the original factory bluing can be found in many of the protected areas, but for the most part that bluing has aged and changed into what is now a wonderful brownish patina. To me this is what an antique revolver is supposed to look like. Used, not abused. Aged, not buffed to bare, shiny metal. Real.

I guarantee this is a true model 1890, not a slick remake of a model 1875, as many really are and if there is a nicer model 1890 Remington out there, I would really like to see it. JM

45 Colt SAA Artillery Revolver. US marked. Nice WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL FOR ANY OF OUR ANTIQUE FIREARMS. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. THANK YOU. JM

This is a Colt SAA - Single Action Army Revolver which was made and wears the markings of the Military US Artillery model. In the late 1899's the US ARMY bought up over 16,000 Colt SAA peacemakers and then sent them Colt to be refitted for Military use. The guns were dismantled and then reassembled using parts from several Colts to make one good enough for the US Army. Artillery models like this one all had barrels cut to 5 1/2" and were all reconfigured to use Colt 45 ammo. Most of these artillery models were reassembled with mismatched serial numbers.
The Military inspector marks are present on this Colt = DFC (David F. Clark) is stamped on the barrel. He was the inspector from 1861-1886.
I have personally shot this gun and it shoots very well. The action is in good shape as is the timing. Some original remodeled finish seems to be present on top of frame and left side. Frame #17049, 1875 Trigger Guard #32679, 1876 Backstrap #5520, 1874 I see no number on the cylinder so this may not be the original cylinder nor are the walnut grips. All else looks correct. Bullseye ejector and tube and hammer. This is an antique and is being sold as an investment or collector item, not as a shootable firearm. Please do not attempt to fire this gun unless it has been inspected and approved by a qualified gunsmith. All that being said, this is a hard to find, well marked, mechanically sound and good looking Colt SAA Army Revolver. Don't miss out.

Please be ready to supply proof that you are at least 21 years of age if you plan to buy this gun. Also check your state laws regarding handguns. Remember, in the eyes of the Federal Government, this gun is a true antique and does not require all the paperwork that comes with buying a modern pistol, but some states do not agree, so check yours to be certain.

38 WCF Colt SAA Antique Revolver. Unusual but Nice WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL FOR ANY OF OUR ANTIQUE FIREARMS. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. THANK YOU. JM

Want to know what hooked me for life on the Colt SA Army revolvers? The sound when you pull back the trigger. No other pistol in the world can duplicate that bone chillingly unmistakable sound. None. Only the Peacemaker and to shave it down a little closer, only the original, true antique, first generation, pre 1898 black powder Colt Peace Maker has the exact sound that hooked me all those years ago. If you are a Colt lover, you already know what I mean. If not, listen sometime and you will.
What I have to offer here is a bit of a mystery to me and quite a few others I have talked to. We all are sure it is a Colt SAA, not a well done copy, but in order for the 3 digit frame number to be correct, it means the barrel and cylinder were changed. The barrel markings and caliber are from sometime after 1878, but still before 1898 so still antique. Perhaps this done to have the gun converted to 38 WCF caliber, or perhaps something happened to the old barrel that forced the change. Please look closely at the photos. Normally I have a policy of accepting returns, but this is such an unusal combination of repairs; ( see photo of back strap and cylinder pin screws and left strap screw hole, lack of markings and others that are barely legible. For all these reasons I am willing to sell this old Colt SAA Single Action Army at a price well below what similar Colts would bring, but I also will not be accepting any returns on this particular Colt and that is for all the reasons I just sighted.
Funny thing is this, the action is very nice and other than being just a tad weak on the lockup, I am quite please by the feel, timing and yes, the sound of this strange but still very nice looking Colt Peace Maker

Please be ready to supply proof that you are at least 21 years of age if you plan to buy this gun. Also check your state laws regarding handguns. Remember, in the eyes of the Federal Government, this gun is a true antique and does not require all the paperwork that comes with buying a modern pistol, but some states do not agree, so check your to be certain.

This burnt match holder is held in place by three chains and can be hooked to the pull ring or font loop found on almost every type of antique hanging lamp frame. The cup is made of white glass that has a lovely opalescent sparkle. It measures about 2 x 2 1/2 inches and has three chains tied together by a small mounting ring. Rare Aladdin hand painted custard glass tall oil lamp. This beautiful lamp is not easy to describe and that is because there are so many rare and unique features just begging to be mentioned. First of all this is an ALADDIN table lamp; Aladdin can be found in raised relief on the base. There is a fancy Queen Ann oil burner made by B&P and the lamp body itself serves as the oil font. A Small intricate, bouquet of flowers is hand painted on both sides of the lamp and even though this lamp is an antique, it remains in wonderful, usable condition.
To makes this lovely old oil lamp even more special, it is topped off by a fabulous antique 10 inch art glass shade that features iridescent marigold carnival glass. The lamp stands 16 inches tall from the bottom to the lower edge of the oil burner and when you add the shade the whole piece stands a little over two feet tall.
I think I have done all I can to describe this gorgeous old lamp and if you will look through the photos, I am sure you'll see why I said this incredible old Aladdin oil lamp is not an easy piece to describe.
Oh yes, please note the lines that at first look like hairline cracks shown in the photo of the lamp base. These are not cracks, they are some sort of molding imperfection. They do not go through the glass and kind of remind me of the mark one makes when removing a brush bristle from partially dried paint.

Click for more detail...
20wb10cw8

Actual Civil War Water Barrel from Horsedrawn Ambulance Talk about a rare and unusual find. This old oak barrel, held together by iron straps is actually a Civil War Water Barrel which was part of the standard equipment carried inside a Horsedrawn Military Ambulance. I would never have guessed this handmade barrel's original purpose and I admit to being doubtful when told by the seller that it had come from an ambulance used during the Civil War, but after seeing this exact same oddly shaped wooden barrel depicted on page 81 of the book, "Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment Volume III" and described as A CIVIL WAR AMBULANCE WATER KEG by the book's author, Dr. Gordon Dammann, I was finally and totally convinced the seller had been right after all.
These strangely shaped wooden barrels were carried in pairs upon the horsedrawn ambulance. The barrels had handles which allowed them to be detached from the ambulance so they could be easily carried and used to rehydrate both ambulatory and non-ambulatory soldiers.
The dimensions varied depending on where the barrels were procured, but most were very close to this one which measures 20" long x 10" at its maximum diameter and then tapered to about 8 inches in order to keep it from rolling around inside the ambulance. All were of wooden (mainly of oak) construction, and had iron or sometimes galvanized metal barrel rings, wooden handles, metal feet, and brass spigots. Many were originally painted gray, but as more and more ambulances were called for to serve the front lines, most were left unfinished or coated with a varnish or thick wax. This one is missing most of the two bands that would have ended in angles that formed their feet, but even with these two bands missing, after filling this old barrel each evening for three nights in a row, i was pleased to find that after the third night it was stillover 85% full the next day and barely even lost a drop for two more days until I emptied it out. This old keg's ability to hold water is quite amazing since it has a cracked board on the bottom and a smaller crack on either side of the filling hole. The original leaded plug is also here, but has lost bits and pieces of the threading to time and unkind handling. This is one of those absolutely outstanding Civil War display items many of us have long hoped to find. Now is the time for someone to own this wonderful, rare piece of Civil War history.

PhotoGravure. American Indian. Arapaho Warrior ? Again I want to confess that beyond my lifelong admiration for all Native Americans, I have very little experience with early photographic images. That said, my good fortune in happening upon this magnificent portrait has peaked my curiosity to know more about his fate.
This photograph of a proud young Native American Indian man has captured not just his image, but his strength, and his intense pride. Is he an Arapaho warrior? A future tribal chief? I wish I knew, but all I have to go by is what's been written on the back of the picture, ' Real Indian from a N. Dakota tribe. Don't know his name.
Hurbert.' Evidently Hurbert collected this photo long ago somewhere in North Dakota. I returned to the auction site where I bought the piece and inquired about Hurbert, but was told only that he may have built and lived in the old Victorian house, but was thought to have been killed in WWII. The shear lack of information contained on this photograph makes me certain it is authentic. The photo measures 8x10 and was purchase as part of a box lot of old frames - some broken - and other images and fortunately was among the few not damaged by broken glass. Who is this fierce looking young man? Where did he come from and where did he go? If anyone can shed light on these questions, please do.

Antique Weathervane Rooster, Arrow & Lightning Ball Now isn't this a good looking fellow? This old rooster once part of an old cast metal weathervane, until he and the rod he stood on went seperate ways in a bad storm. I don't know how many coats of paint he's had through the years, but he has a rather thick coat of it. The farmhouse where many of the items we will be listing was decorated with quite a number of antique lightning rod and weathervane parts. This strutting bird is made of a medium weight cast metal. I think he is solid, not hollow, but I do not believe he is made of aluminum, more likely some type of white or pot metal. The rooster measures just about 9 inches tall by 9 inches wide and stands on a different antique arrow and base than before, but he doesn't seem to mind his new roost. The stand is copper with a sheet iron mount and the arrow is also an antique. So is the white milk glass lightning ball below Mr. Rooster's feet.
How about finding this good looking old guy a nice new home?

'Barbara Le Bey is an artist whose oil paintings of florals, gardens, landscapes and children reveal the beauty of the South in her own impressionistic style. While she makes no attempt to replicate the past, her work is reminiscent of the American impressionists, yet her paintings depict our own time and place with breathtaking color.'

Red & Black hanging oil lamp. curved glass tulip shade Here's a cute little hanging oil lamp that has a lot's of good looks and won't break the bank to own. The shade is made of curved red slag glass in an eight panel tulip style that is bound in a thin black framework. There's a very nice, fully functional antique font of clear pressed glass with a frosted chimney and safety tested burner. The frame is rather spartan, but goes well with the rest of the lamp parts and features a fancy shade crown and very neat spring type font band that is quite unique. Overall width is 14 inches and height is 20. Great little oil lamp at a special price.
