1933 Chicago Century of Progress Dirigold Spoon
Official 1933 Chicago 'A Century of Progress' World's Fair golden-hued souvenir spoon.
Size: 5 3/4 inches.
Marked: Dirigold, along with another mark of initials within circles, and Green Duck Co. Chicago.
Dirigold is not real gold. It is an alloy with a golden hue originally developed in Sweden in 1914 by the Swedish metallurgist, Carl Molin. In 1935, the Federal Trade Commission forced the company to change the Dirigold name, as Dirigold did not contain gold and was misleading to the public. Today it is known as Dirilyte.
