4069

Fishing Boat West Beach Marina Painting NW ART Fishing Boat @ West Beach Marina Water Painting. On the back it says " Aurora W. Beach Oct 29-70. I assume that the boat is called Aurora and it is docked at the W. Beach Marina for refueling. There is the Taxaco Star sign included in the scene . <p> I think that this is the West Beach Marina on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. Although there could certainly be another place in the NorthWest called "West Beach" with a Marina. <p> In any event is is an original painting of oil on stiff canvas or heavy linen like paper. ( I don't know enough about the different paints) The signature has been trimmed off of the bottom. There is still just a bit of some lettering visible but not enough to identify the artist. <p> It measures 11"x 8 1/2". <p> The condition is good. There is a pin hole at the top right. Then as mentioned already, the signature has been trimmed off. It is unframed.

Oil Painting "Bouquet of Friendship" by La Rue Lovely original textured oil painting that is framed in a lovely ornately carved wood frame. It is signed "LaRue" in the right hand corner as well as on the information on the back. The painting is 14" x 10". The frame is 17" x 21". <p> The title of of this painting on the back reads "Bouquet of Friendship". It was painted in El Toro. It says it was a painted gift and was presented by someone to someone else in 1974. The names mean nothing to me but the painting is excellent. The colors remind me of the fall with the browns, yellows and bit of orange. This color combination was typical of the earthy colors that were so popular in the 70's.

4471

Seashore Misty Dawn Oil on Canvas Painting Lovely 20" x 16" oil painting on canvas. It is of a ocean seashore at sunrise. It shows seagulls and sea grasses with a lovely gentle pink/blue/yellow sky. You can see the sun reflection into the water as if it was breaking through the fog. The colors are lovely pinks, blue with some yellows, white and tans.

It is framed in a simple oak frame that is 21" x 18".

The condition is good but there is a smudge of something on the painting that goes from the gull down the the water. It almost seems like an appropriate place for a streak but I don't think this was the artist intention. I am sure that it could be cleaned up .

The condition of the art is excellent. It is framed behind glass. The print is 14" x 11 1/8"

Here is a bit about the artist I found on the internet:

Carl C. "Spike" Knuth Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Spike’s interest in the outdoors began at age seven with birds and fishing on southeastern Wisconsin’s Okauchee Lake. From ages 8-13, He spent many summer vacations—any opportunities—honing his fishing and nature study skills. He traveled the lake by rowboat, covering many miles and spending many hours. His interests expanded when he moved with his parents and brother to Fond du Lac, in east central Wisconsin. Here he spent countless hours around big Lake Winnebago, in nearby Supple and Eldorado marshes, the world famous Horicon Marsh, Lake Butte des Mortes and more marshes and lakes in the area. During this same time period, he expressed an interest in and love of wildlife and the outdoors while developing his talent in art. He began studying plants and flowers so that when he illustrated wildlife in his paintings the vegetation depicted would be genuine. Spike’s artwork and illustrations, writings and photography have appeared in numerous magazines, particularly Virginia Wildlife. He has created more than 70 covers for a variety of magazines He worked at Mercury Outboards for 13 years, starting as a hand trucker, moving to production control then to commercial artist. He worked as a news photographer and artist for the Fond du Lac Reporter for 4-1/2 years. In 1968-69 he hosted a live half-hour television program on KFIZ-TV, a sibling operation to the newspaper in Fond du Lac. Spike said his childhood dream and desire to be an outdoor writer and wildlife illustrator full time came to fruition in February, 1974, when he began working for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He hosted and produced more than 300-television programs from 1975 to 1986 for the Department, including a two-minute radio program on WRVA, Richmond for seven years. Spike has two duck stamps to his credit, the 1978 Indiana Waterfowl Stamp and the 1992 and 1999 Virginia Waterfowl Stamps. He wrote a monthly page in Virginia Wildlife (Naturally Wild) magazine as well as illustrated the Wild in the Woods pages. His artwork of northern yellowthroats was among 50 paintings displayed at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Bird Art Show in Wausau, Wisconsin, in 1979, a piece that made a world tour to fine arts academies in Edinburgh, Scotland; London, England and Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In fact, the painting was used on the cover of Edinburgh Today magazine. Spike has been donating artwork to Ducks Unlimited since 1967 beginning with the D.U. Chapter in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and has donated about 500 original pieces of art to Ducks Unlimited’s auctions since then. His association with Chesapeake Style magazine began in the spring of 2000, when an article about him appeared in conjunction with the Rappahannock River Wildlife Art Festival for which he was named Artist of the Year. Since then he writes and illustrates Spike's Wildlife Almanac column every month. Spike said, "I write and illustrate wildlife because wildlife fascinates me and I feel the urge to say to people, ‘Look at this, isn’t this amazing?' I just want to share my fascination and interest in the outdoors with readers, and tell them about what I saw and learned. If it wasn't for wildlife, I probably wouldn't paint or write!" The frame makes it a bit larger. The frame is not anything special. It does have a few nicks but not anything noticeable. However I would recommend only having the print mailed to you thus saving on shipping. This way you can reframed into a something nicer.

Original Watercolor Lovely Watercolor painting of a stream or creek running through a pasture land or meadow. The painting is 6" x 8". It is signed with what look likes "Wiibil". But I cannot say for sure. I found it matted behind glass in but there was some significant water damage with mold. So I took it out of frame and tossed the matt. The frame it was it was not that great either so I toss that too. The painting is mounted on a paper based backboard. There is still some obvious water damage visible on the perimeter. The painting is in excellent condition. It needs to to be re matted and framed. So I have decided to offer this painting unframed therefor you can pick your own style.

Floral Oil Painting in Round Frame Floral Pastel Painting in a Round Wood Frame. It is behind glass. The painting is signed with what look like Harold Luhks. The diameter of the frame is 17 3/4".

I have not taken the picture out of the frame but it appears to be oil pastels on top of a painted surface. The maroon paint has texture whereas the the flowers do not.

It is beautifully done. The condition of the art is excellent. The milk white painted frame is good but there are a few nicks and smudges on it. However the flaws only add to the shabby chic appeal.

Original vintage Sepia Tone Pastel Portrait Cowboy Art by Federico Expertly done cowboy portrait by Federico. It is done is earthy Sepia tone pastels. I don't know who this cowboy is but he is a looker.

It is behind glass in wood frame that suits it well. The painting in the frame measures 13 7/8" x 16 3/4". The whole thing measures 16 1/2" x 19 1/4". The condition of the art is good. It needs to be re-framed. It does not sit flat in the frame so there is a buckling of the paper in two places. There there appears to be a wrinkle near that man's eye. There are small wrinkles throughout the hat oo. There is also a wrinkle on the outer right side next to the frame . The glass is cracked in the lower left corner. On both lower corners it looks like there is faint moisture damage. I picked it up years ago in the basement of an estate sale here in Seattle.

6009

Historic Oil Painting S.S. Tutshi of Carcross Yukon Original Oil Painting on board of the S.S. Tutshi of Carcross Yukon. The painting only measures 24" x 18". The wood frame adds 1 1/2" more. The condition is very good. I have not been able to identify a signature. Here a bit of history of this legendary ship. "The steamer S.S. Tutshi was the "queen" of the British Yukon Navigation Company's fleet. She was constructed at Carcross and launched on June 12, 1917. At 1,040 tons, the Tutshi was one of the larger boats in the Yukon. She had a crew of 29 and could carry 135 passengers. Her original run was between Carcross and Graham Inlet on Tagish Lake. Although the Tutshi carried freight (mail, groceries etc.), she was built primarily as an excursion boat. Between 1920 and 1926, she underwent three expansions to accommodate the bustling tourist trade. The Tutshi carried up to 135 passengers all of whom were first class. The S.S. Tutshi was the biggest passenger carrying ship of its time, and the only one with room service. One of the Tutshi's destinations was Ben-My-Chree. Ben-My-Chree was the site of a mine in the early 1900's, but the mine caved in, and the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Partridge, never reopened it. Instead they imported plants and trees from around the world and converted the area to a beautiful garden spot. They had literally recreated an English country garden where spectacular displays of flowers could be seen and enjoyed by all. The Tutshi brought tourists here to view the beautiful gardens. The elderly couple would entertain their visitors with sing-songs around their organ and serve them a delicious fare including tea, cakes and rhubarb wine. The overnight trip would end back in Carcross the next morning. An alternate excursion to Atlin, B.C. was available until 1936. The Tutshi was one of the first sternwheeler's to be converted from wood to oil, a modification made in 1925 largely for the comfort of the passengers. The Tutshi made her last trip to Ben-My Chree in 1955 and her last trip ever in 1956 when she was used to pull a barge of railway ties from Taku Arm to Carcross. In July of that year she was pulled out of the water and remained abandoned on the shores of the Natasahini River until 1971 when the Yukon Government purchased it and became involved in her restoration. She was beached on the shore of Lake Bennett at Carcross in 1972, repainted in 1977 and the real restoration work was begun in 1984. By early 1990 she was almost restored to her former beauty when sadly, the S.S. Tutshi was destroyed in an early morning fire on July 25, 199O. When the suspicious fire was finally extinguished, all that remained of the "grand old lady" was a small portion of her bow. It was truly the end of an era! The S.S. Tutshi was a stately and elegant vessel that will always be revered and remembered by all those who knew and enjoyed her graceful beauty"
