Josef Originals figurines were produced by California artist Muriel Joseph George from about1945 through the 80's. The figurines were originally produced in California, but production was moved to Japan in the early 60's. The figurines were mainly young women, but many animals were also made, including lots of mice.

Down to Sleep is a small girl in pajamas getting ready to go to bed. This is one of the old Josef California pieces, made before the company moved its manufacturing to Japan in 1962. 3" Piece has Josef Originals sticker and Down to Sleep sticker. No damage, but some crazing.

This is under the glaze and was evidently done at the time of manufacture. This area is circled in the closeup picture. Nearby areas that look dark in the picture are just the light reflecting off the gold paint.
