lippiatt441

Lippiatt 5 Pc. Silverplate Coffee/Tea Service on Tray This 5 piece silverplated coffee/tea service set on a tray was made in 1870 by the Lippiatt Silver Plate Eng. Company of New York and is marked: Lippiatt / Silver Plate & Eng. Co. / PAT'D Nov, 1 1870.
While trying to research the company the only article I could come across was from a Silver Forum which is below.
The Lippiatt Silver Plate and Engraving Company has an important place in the history of American silver, though few people have heard of them. Lippiatt was the first company obtain a patent on the process of stippling, or finishing of a piece of silver with mechanical brushes or pins to produce a pebbly or frosted surface. The process had been in use for some time in the jewelry industry, but Lippiatt was the first to apply it to silverware. Unfortunately, Lippiatt's patent applied only to silverplate, and was not broad enough to prevent others from patenting minor improvements to the process. As such, the history of the company was not a happy one. Incorporated late in 1870, the company apprently stopped manufacturing silverplate by 1872.
Of the 5 pieces the only piece that does not have the company name on it is the coffee pot as you can see in the pictures.
The set contains:
1-Coffee Pot which measures 6 1/8 inches tall, 6 1/4 inches spout to handle and 4 inches wide,
1-Tea Pot which measures 5 5/8 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches spout to handle and 3 3/8 inches wide that also has the #100 marked on it,
1-Sugar Bowl which measures 5 inches tall, 5 1/4 inches spout to handle and 3 1/4 inches widethat also has the #100 marked on it,
1-Creamer which measures 4 inches tall, 3 7/8 inches spout to handle and 3 inches wide that also has the #107 marked on it and
1-Tray which measures 1/2 inches tall, 13 3/4 inches long and 11 inches wide that also has the #5, #11 and #100 marked on it.
In very good condition the only piece that has dings and scratches is the tray which I have shown in my pictures.
An addition to any Silverplated Tea Service Collection.

corning461

Pyrex 6 Cup Glass Percolator Coffee Pot #7756 This wonderfully crafted glass coffee pot was made by Corning Glass Works in the 1950s and discontinued in the 1970's.
In 1915, a wondrous new line of glass dishes for baking appeared in the nation's hardware, department and china stores. On May 18, 1915, Boston department store Jordan Marsh placed the first Pyrex order. Sold under the Pyrex trademark, this transparent ovenware seemed to be the perfect material, for it was swift, clean, and economical. Over the 89 years since it was introduced, Pyrex products have seen many changes in design, color, decoration and accessories to keep pace with constantly changing fashions and cooking practices. Pyrex is now available in a large assortment of products perfect for preparing, taking, baking, serving and storing food.
The pot itself has a blue tint while the lid is clear.
The stem, basket, handle, pot and lid are quality Pyrex glass with the exception of the aluminum basket cover and bottom and the stainless steel band ring for the handle.
With the following marks:
the bottom: the Flameglow logo / #7756-B / Pyrex / Made in USA,

Click for more detail...

ptssilex2046

Genuine Silex 8 Cup Glass Coffee Maker This is an absolutely beautiful hand-blown vacuum coffee maker c 1930s that was made by Silex and is marked: #525 / #120 RA-8 / The Silex Company / Hartford, Conn. U.S.A. / H.E.P.C. APP. No. 3402.
The Silex Company specialized in making heat-resistant glass vessels for industry. In the 1930s, the company merged and became Proctor-Silex, then Hamilton-Beach-Proctor-Silex, then Scovill Industries, etc.
This is catalogue model RA-8, and makes eight cups and also comes with an extra stringless cloth strainer and original booklet. Vacuum Coffee makers also integrate the heating and brewing functions.
Coffee grounds are placed in the clear glass vessel on the top. Water is heated in the bottom component. Air, heated in conjunction with the water expands and forces hot water upward in the tube and contacts the grounds, brewing the coffee in the upper chamber.
The brewed liquid remains in the top chamber until the unit is removed from the heat; the temperature change induces the vacuum between the lower and upper chambers, which draws the brewed coffee back downward into the lower pot.
The vacuum seal is not broken until all of the coffee has been drawn back down naturally, and the last gush of air is heard to gurgle. The force of the vacuum pulling the water down through the grounds at a high pressure helps to express the coffee, similar to the espresso brewing. It's much different than a drip method, which is done as water drains through the grounds by gravity.
In very good but used condition it measures 10 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide.
An addition to any Vintage Silex Coffee Pot Collection.
SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking.

Click for more detail...

corning3039

Corning Ware 6 Cup Starburst Coffee Carafe This 6 cup coffee carafe in the Starburst pattern was made by Corning Glass Works and is marked: Corning / Heat Proof Glass / 6 Cup.
CorningWare was originally a brand name for a unique pyroceramic glass cookware resistant to thermal shock, that was first introduced in 1958 by Corning Glass Works. Corning Ware is notable for the fact that it can be used directly on the stovetop.
In 1953, Dr. S. Donald Stookey of the Corning research and development division invented Pyroceram, a white glass-ceramic material capable of withstanding enormous variations in temperature. It evolved from materials originally developed for a U.S. ballistic missile program, and Stookey's research involved heat resistant material for nose cones.
Corning Ware's oven-to-table service first featured the little blue Cornflower decoration, designed by Joseph Baum, an artist at the Charles Brunelle Advertising Agency in Hartford, Connecticut, which became the trademark of Corning consumer products for three decades. Additional patterns included: Casual Collections / Colours / Creations / French White / Old Town / Ryku / Scandia White / Spice of Life / Sun Blossoms / Traditions and Wildflower.
Originally manufactured by Corning Glass Works, the Corning Ware and Corelle brand names are now owned by World Kitchens Incorporated of Reston, Virginia, which relaunched the brand name in 2001.
In very good condition, the lid and handle are free of burn marks and the number 6 does have gold loss which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 8 1/2 inches tall, 3 1/8 inches across the rim and 4 7/8 inches across the base.
