wtrford2866

Waterford Crystal Wine Decanter with 8 glasses This crystal glass wine decanter with 8 stemware glasses was made by Waterford Crystal in Ireland and purchased as a gift in the 1970's and is marked on the bottom of a glass: Waterford.
When the brothers George and William Penrose founded the Waterford Glass House in 1783, they made a bold promise - to make Waterford crystal in as fine a quality as any in Europe… in the most elegant style. It was no idle boast. They had in hand the old secrets of mingling minerals and glass to create Waterford crystal of beautiful and mysterious qualities. It sang sweetly at the tap of a finger. It felt soft and warm to the touch yet possessed strength and durability known only to Waterford crystal. And it radiated a distinctive, silvery white brilliance, which Waterford Crystal's artists enhanced with deeply - cut ornamentation that gave the finished pieces a vivacious, traditional Waterford crystal sparkle. Patience, skill, and artistry had wrought a triumph at Waterford Crystal. In 1851 George Gatchell, was forced to close the Waterford factory, largely because of crushing taxes. This great tradition lay dormant for a hundred years. But when Irish independence rekindled a passion for Irish arts in the 1940s and 1950s, a group of businessmen resolved to bring back to life the industry that had made the city of Waterford famous. They recruited a small band of hand - picked artists, and under the guidance of these masters, young apprentices learned the intricacies of the art of crystal. In a few short years Waterford Crystal reclaimed its pride of place. Once more, it is the customary gift for royalty and heads of state. The Irish government has presented exquisite Waterford Crystal pieces to each American president from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan. Waterford Crystal trophies are awarded for distinguished achievement in science and to the champions of some of the world's most prestigious sporting events. Thus the glory of Waterford Crystal has reawakened - a splendid phoenix rising from the ashes.
Done in a lovely vertical cut criss cross pattern which I have yet been able to identify it is in very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites. The decanter measures 10 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide while the glasses measure 5 1/2 inches tall, 2 1/2 inches across the base and 2 1/4 inches across the base. An addition to any Waterford Crystal Collection.

empire2867

Empire Pewter Porringer This pewter porringer is marked on the back: Empire / Pewter.
Empire Silver Company has been one of the leading manufacturers of sterling and pewter hollowware since 1946. It remains to this day family owned and operated. Empire produces all of its merchandise in its Brooklyn, NY factory and has been known for its craftsmanship and its ability to deliver in a timely fashion.
A porringer is a small, usually pewter, dish from which Europeans and colonial Americans ate their gruel or porridge, or other soft foods. Porringers were usually cylindrical, between 4 inches to 6 inches in diameter, and 1 1/2 to 3 inches deep; they had a flat, sometimes ornately decorated handle, or sometimes two handles at opposite sides, on which the owner's initials were sometimes engraved and occasionally came with a lid. All authentic porringers today are considered to be rare – especially those made in America prior to the American Revolution because, when there became a shortage of lead for making bullets, the Americans and the British are said to have raided the nearby kitchens of all their pewterware, which was thought to be soft enough to use for their purposes.
In very good condition it measures 1 1/2 inch high, 5 1/2 inches long and 4 inches wide. An addition to any Porringer Collection.

Walt Disney's Treasure Chest Mickey Mouse Viewer This hard plastic viewer comes in it's original box that is marked: Walt Disney Treasure Chest Mickey Mouse Viewer and 16 Film Strips in Full Color / Snow White / Bambi / Dumbo / Pinocchio / Made in USA.
Walt Disney designed the character while riding on a train back to Los Angeles with his wife Lillian. After completing his sketch, Walt showed it to Lillian and said his name was Mortimer Mouse. Lillian did not like the name and suggested Mickey Mouse. And so was the birth of Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse made his debut in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, at the Colony Theater in New York. Steamboat Willie was Disney's first film with sound. The original voice of Mickey Mouse was Walt Disney. Mickey's first words were spoken in 1929 in The Karnival Kid. The first merchandise to feature Mickey Mouse was a child's school tablet in 1929. Mickey is a hit.....
The box, which has the top flap torn off and a crayon drawing on the bottom actually contains 4 Walt Disney Feature Length Films in Full Color with the story of each film on the individual boxes:
Bambi which has 4 films inside the box. Pinocchio which has 5 film strips inside. One looks like it is in 2 parts.
2-Dumbo with 4 films in each and the red and black viewer which measures 1 1/2 inches high, 2 3/4 inches long and 1 3/4 inches deep.
A wonderful addition to any Disneyana Collection.
