Click for more detail...

elsie2997

Dad's Desk This vintage Borden's Elsie the Cow Creamer is unmarked.
From the mid 40's they were made with different collars and body colors, some were painted, some plain, others had a gold toned color and had a paper label attached to the underside that was marked: Copyright Bordens Co. Most came with the flowered collar and the bow in the tail such as this one. I've read that it was a premium give-a-way to merited employees.
Elsie the Borden Cow is the unofficial mascot of the Borden Company, now primarily used to promote the Dairy Farmers of America's Borden milk products.
Borden was named after Gail Borden, Jr (1801–1874), philanthropist, businessman, and inventor, who was the first to develop a commercial method of condensing milk, and the dairy company founded by him (renamed Borden, Inc. in 1968) expanded and diversified to become a sizable corporation operating in many areas of business.
Elsie was created in the 1930s to symbolize the Perfect Dairy Product and made an appearance at the New York World's Fair in 1939. She also starred in a movie, RKO's Little Men, in 1940. For a time in the mid-1940s when she was voiced by Hope Emerson, she was better known than some human celebrities, and Elsie remains among the most recognizable product logos in the United States and Canada.
In very good condition with age crazing throughout, a tiny fleck on the topside of the rim and a manufacturer flaw on the belly which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 6 inches tall, 6 1/4 inches long and 2 1/8 inches wide.
An addition to any Advertising or Cow Creamer Collection.
SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking.
