8213

1970's Sears Electric Medalist Power 12 Typewriter 8213 This wonderful 1970's ELECTRIC portable typewriter definitely carries the nostalgic look of the 70's with its beautiful glossy BLACK color. It was a very well built machine that has the typing touch of the best machines made in that era. It has all the features anyone could want and everything is working beautifully on this machine except for the 'Power Ribbon' function. It has been disabled as there is no need for this feature and has nothing to do with the operation of the typewriter.

This particular typewriter has a very clear and good looking type style.

The machine has a new black ribbon installed. I sell new ribbons in my store which are located under the category of TYPEWRITER SUPPLIES.

The typewriter has a 12 inch platen on it (wide platen) which means you can put a sheet of paper in sideways which is great for ledger pages, etc. This unit comes complete with its own original 'Trimline' carrying case.

If you are looking for a good yesteryear working typewriter that is a workhorse and ready for hard work, this is the machine for you. It comes complete with the original instruction booklet.

A side note is that the tab bar is hard to locate in the pictures as it is the long bar in between the SET and CLEAR buttons just under the Sears logo. What a great and easy to operate machine this is.

Rib3

Black/White Ink Ribbon For Most Portable Typewriters This new replacement typewriter ribbon will fit many portable typewriters that have a single pin mounting post with a small drive pin near its base to drive the ribbon. It will fit most portable Smith-Corona, Hermes, Underwood, Royal, Remington, Adler or Sears typewriters. The spool size is 2 inches across and the ribbon measures 1/2 inch in height.

This is a special ribbon with white carbon film on the lower half to act as a correction ribbon. When you make a mistake, all you do is back up one space, set the ribbon to the highest lift position (usually the red dot on the lift selector), then type the same letter over again to WHITE OUT the mistake. Now you are set to type the correct letter over the white out spot. See the photo for more detail of this ribbon.

The Hermes compact portables were no exception. Compactly designed with all-important features, the Hermes compact portable is an ideal typewriter for students, occasional typists and people on the road.

Clean and sporty, manufactured with the highest degree of quality, including the precision Swiss engineering that one would expect from a Swiss watch. End Quote

This typewriter must have been stored most of its life as it is in excellent condition and is all original.

Help yourself to this treasure from the past.

Can you believe this cool looking portable typewriter? Royal outdid themselves on this one in 1933. The typewriter is metal but is painted with a wood grain finish. This typewriter even has a tabulator key and a margin release key right on the keyboard which was unusual for portables in the era.

The white labeled glass keys are in near perfect condition despite the nearly 75 year age of this machine. The typewriter actually types very well and has a nice touch to it.

I am sure you agree this is a very special unit that would make a great yesteryear display or a wonderful movie prop as it is all operational.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 8523: 1917 Corona No. 3 Folding Portable Typewriter 8523

Click for more detail...

8523

1917 Corona No. 3 Folding Portable Typewriter 8523 MADE IN THE USA: Wow! Can you believe this wonderful antique typewriter find? This manual typewriter definitely carries the nostalgic look of the early days of typewriter mania. It is the Corona No. 3 folding model design. Corona was the forerunner to the Smith-Corona typewriters when it join forces with the L.C. Smith typewriter company in the 1930's.

There are several wonderful and nostalgic features that makes this 1917 machine very special and quite a museum piece. One notable feature is the placement of the characters on the keyboard layout. The characters are in different places than what we are familiar with in more modern times. This typewriter also has the GLASS KEYS which are really a collectible item these days. This makes for a great feel to the keyboard.

In addition, the typewriter has a double-shift carriage. One shift key is for the figures and numbers, another shift key is for capital letters. To accomplish this with the 28 key-button keyboard, there are THREE characters on each typebar, not just two characters like the more modern machines. There are also only 3 rows of keys compared to later 4 row models.

Another collectible feature is that this typewriter folds over onto itself so it will fit inside a very tiny carrying case that only measures 12 inches wide by 10 inches deep and 4.5 inches tall. See the photos for how this machine folds up. Amazing!

This typewriter is probably not good for heavy typing as it is very old and the character placement on the keyboard is not what we are used to typing with these days. However, this machine is very rare and most unusual to find one that is in working condition with all the parts contained therein. It would make a great display piece or for a collectible investment. This is one of the most rare model Corona I have ever seen so not only are there not many around, most I have seen on the internet are either missing parts or missing the carrying case. This machine is indeed complete!

The serial number of this machine is #109227.

A typewriter expert has written about this machine: Once declared by Hemingway as the only psychiatrist he would ever submit to, the Corona No. 3 was an instant success when it debuted in 1912. Based on the Standard Folding Model of 1906, the No. 3 was refined in this even lighter and more compact machine made mostly from aluminum. The No. 3 has three banks of keys and a double carriage shift, one for capitals and the other for figures. Another unique feature in the typewriter's design is the machine's ability to fold in order to fit in the carrying case -- that is, the carriage is hinged and could tuck forward over the keyboard and become more compact for storage. The machine was so practical that is was chosen by British Army in WWI.

This model only had one shift key on the left side of the keyboard only.

It also comes with the original bristle type cleaning brush with a wooden handle. This is too cool!
