ts6791

Vintage Guardian Service Ware Gravy Sauce Server Liner Plate Vintage Guardian Service Ware Gravy Sauce Server Liner Plate. Guardian Service cookware is constructed out of hammered aluminum, and is considered to be heavy-duty in contrast to today's cookware. It was made by Century Metalcraft Corporation of Los Angeles from 1935 to until 1956 at which time the plant burned down. It was considered to be quite pricey for the day and a complete starter set cost about a month's salary. It was sold via home shows, Independent salesman sold Guardian Service cookware at in home parties. At these dinner parties, the Guardian Service salesman would prepare a delicious meal for the guests, all in hopes of selling them some of the cookware. and if you were lucky enough to own a set you were the envy of all your friends!

Guardian utilized the high domed glass lids which are designed so that the food's moisture would condense while cooking, and then drip back down on the food. Plus, the patented bases insured uniform heating of the food. During the pre-WWII years, this cookware had metal lids, but because of the rationing during the War, the lids were then made from oven-proof glass. It was one of the first versions of waterless cookware, There are a variety of sizes of cookware pots and pans, ranging from 1 quart to 4 quarts. Roasters, griddles, kettle ovens, beverage urns, and double boilers were also part of the collection. Other pieces for serving such as the gravy or saucer were made to accompany the cookware.

This liner plate fits the sauce or gravy server, and is one of the harder to find pieces. It is 9" long by 5 1/4 across, has an indentation for the gravy server to sit in the middle. It would be a wonderful addition to your collection or cookware set!

Click for more detail...

ts6913

Vintage Landers, Frary & Clark Chrome Glass Thermas Hot Cold Thermal Vintage Landers, Frary & Clark Chrome and Glass Thermas, Hot Cold Thermal Beverage Server.
Landers, Frary & Clark was a housewares company based in New Britain, Connecticut. It operated from 1865 until its assets were sold to the General Electric company in 1965.

Before his company was incorporated as Landers, Frary & Clark in 1862, George M. Landers had been doing business in New Britain for over 20 years. In 1842 Dewey and Landers was established to manufacture metal products such as furniture casters, coat and hat hooks and other items out of brass; in 1852 with a change of partnership the business was organized in 1853 as a stock company known as Landers and Smith Manufacturing. In 1862, with the purchase of the Meriden business of Frary & Carey, James D. Frary joined the firm and the company was incorporated at Landers, Frary & Clark. 1866 saw the addition of cutlery manufacturing when LF&C instituted the Aetna Works.

From the beginning Landers, Frary & Clark manufactured products to make life easier for the American Housewife. Food scales, coffee grinders, cake mixers, bread makers, coffee pots and percolators along with tableware of every description were all in production before the 19th century turned to the 20th. With the advent of electricity in the first quarter of the 20th century Charles Smith, president of Landers at the time, realized the potential and put into production an electric percolator, iron, toaster and coffee urn.

The success of these items led to an entire line of electric products including vacuum cleaners, electric ranges, washing machines, blenders, electric mixers and electric blankets (to name a few) which, along with the non-electric items, were sold all over the world. Speaking at a meeting of the Newcomen Society in 1955, LF&C President Richard White stated that it was the development of the Universal Bread maker (a gold metal winner at the 1904 World’s fair), the Universal Food Chopper and the Coffee Percolator that helped establish Landers, Frary & Clark as a leader in the American housewares industry.
Many of these items were marketed under the brand Universal. Frary & Clark as a leader in the American housewares industry. In the 1960’s the cutlery division was closed and the small electrics sold to General Electric.

This piece has a chrome outer with a glass Thermos interior, the lid is in the shaped of a stopper, the top has a plastic type knob and a rubber seal that fits snugly into the server. It is 9 1/2" tall and 6" across from side to the end of the handle.

It is in excellent gently used condition, no dents in the metal outer, glass thermos intact, chrome shinny.

Have not been able to find history on the Tree Spirit Company, other then they are hand turned bowls and were made in the USA.

This is a hand turned bowl, as such it is not perfectly round, it is 14 1/2" across on one side and 13 1/4" across on the other, 4 1/8" deep. This piece dates to the 1980s era and is marked on the bottom with the Tree Spirit mark.

This size can be used for many things, bread baking, mixing bowl, salad bowl and more. It is in wonderful condition with lots of patina and a primitive, rustic look from aging and use. No cracks, edges do show signs of use along with some marks on the outside of the bowl. I am not sure what kind of wood it, these bowls were normally made oak, maple, cherry or walnut. I think it is either maple or oak, but that is only my opinion.

It would be a beautiful, treasured addition to use or in your collection. Please see our other listings for additional pieces of vintage and antique pottery and wood bowls.

Vintage Weston Bowl Mill Wooden Bread or Mixing Bowl, Hand Turned This is an outstanding piece! I estimate the age to be from the early 1900s, I have had it for many years and it is one of the pieces I have really not wanted to part with, however, the time has come to thin out some of the neat items I have collected. This is a hand turned bowl, as such it is not perfectly round, it is 18 1/2" across on one side and 19 1/4" across on the other, 5 1/2" deep. It is marked on the bottom with the Weston Bowl mark, part of which has worn off from use/age.

This size can be used for many things, bread baking, mixing bowl, salad bowl and more. It is in wonderful condition with lots of patina and a primitive, rustic look from aging and use. No cracks, edges do show signs of use along with some marks on the outside of the bowl. I am not sure what kind of wood it, the Weston Bowl Company used oak, maple, cherry and walnut. I think it is either maple or oak, but that is only my opinion.

ts6748

Vintage Churchill Staffordshire England Blue Willow Teapot 5 Cup Vintage Churchill Staffordshire England Blue Willow Teapot with Lid, Georgian Shape. This pattern was made in 1989 and features the long favorite Blue Willow pattern and tells the story of two lovers. As the story goes, There was once a Mandarin who had a beautiful daughter, Koong-se. He employed a secretary, Chang who, while he was attending to his master's accounts, fell in love with Koong-se, much to the anger of the Mandarin, who regarded the secretary as unworthy of his daughter.

The secretary was banished and a fence constructed around the gardens of the Mandarin's estate so that Chang could not see his daughter and Koong-se could only walk in the gardens and to the water's edge. One day a shell fitted with sails containing a poem, and a bead which Koong-se had given to Chang, floated to the water's edge. Koong-se knew that her lover was not far away.

She was soon dismayed to learn that she had been betrothed to Ta-jin, a noble warrior Duke. She was full of despair when it was announced that her future husband, the noble Duke, was arriving, bearing a gift of jewels to celebrate his betrothal. However, after the banquet, borrowing the robes of a servant, Chang passed through the guests unseen and came to Koong-se's room. They embraced and vowed to run away together. The Mandarin, the Duke, the guests, and all the servants had drunk so much wine that the couple almost got away without detection, but Koong-se's father saw her at the last minute and gave chase across the bridge.

The couple escaped and stayed with the maid that Koong-se's father had dismissed for conspiring with the lovers. Koong-se had given the casket of jewels to Chang and the Mandarin, who was also a magistrate, swore that he would use the jewels as a pretext to execute Chang when he caught him. One night the Mandarin's spies reported that a man was hiding in a house by the river and the Mandarin's guards raided the house. But Chang had jumped into the ragging torrent and Koong-se thought that he had drowned.

Some days later the guards returned to search the house again. While Koong-se's maid talked to them, Chang came by boat to the window and took Koong-se away to safety. They settled on a distant island, and over the years Chang became famous for his writings. This was to prove his undoing. The Mandarin heard about him and sent guards to destroy him. Chang was put to the sword and Koong-se set fire to the house while she was still inside.

Thus they both perished and the gods, touched by their love, immortalized them as two doves, eternally flying together in the sky.

This teapot is 7 inches tall with the lid on and about 9 1/2 inches across from the spout to the handle, holds about five cups. It is in excellent condition, no chips and no signs of use, marked on the bottom with Churchill Staffordshire England mark.
