Circa: 1974 Type: PLATES Manufacturer: Royal Bayreuth
SATURDAY/BAKING, #6 in the Sunbonnet Babies/ Royal Bayreuth Weekday/Workday series Sandwich or Tidbit Serving Handled Plate Tray. A large 'T' is in the middle of the crest from Tettau, West Germany. Seven 7 1/4 inch plates , set # rubbed off, & came in just one large box from a 28 day run in 1974, original price $12.50 each. Molly (Mollie?) & Mae, the Sunbonnet babies, were created by Bertha L. Corbett - an American artist around the early 1900's. She had no confidence in her ability to draw faces, so she hid them behind sunbonnets. She targeted her art toward helping children develop healthy personal character traits and teaching them their daily chores (washing, ironing, sewing, sweeping, dusting, baking, & fishing/going to church). Some variations were identified as the Beach Babies and the Snow Babies. CONDITION: This adorable little piece has 3 small brown glaze drips to the bottom left edge of the plate that blend in with the background - otherwise in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, etc. No box/certificate. White spots are glare from my lights. VERY CUTE & SUPER FOR DISPLAY! Many other Sunbonnet Babies Plates & items on this site, or we'll find them for you. God Bless America, & Blessed Holidays. |
