Vintage Mid Century Modern Fred Press Gold Set of Six. Floral Dogwood Glass Beverage Set. Fred Press was born in Boston in 1919, he attended the Vesper George School of Art from 1938 to 1939, when the war broke out he joined the Air Force and at the end of the war returned to teach at the Vesper School of Art. He was the founder of Contemporary Arts. He wrote illustrated several books, and was an accomplished painter. In the 1950's he moved to New York where he turned his talents to revolutionizing the giftware industry. His designs won numerous awards and he became a noted, award winning designer in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. He is well known for his signature dishware and glassware, pieces produced ranged from cups and plates to gold plated serving dishes. His glassware collection was stocked at noted department stores, such as Neiman Marcus and many other high end department stores. Fred Press items have become highly sought after and are getting harder and harder to find.
This is a beautiful set! It has a gold overlay in the shape of a dogwood, each flower petal has a frosted white center, each glass is 5 7/8 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches across the mouth. Each is signed with Fred Press and in excellent condition. Perfect addition to your collection or barware! |
