Circa: mid1900s Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: Millers Falls Millers Falls Mass. U.S.A.
Offering this nice 10" swing antique bit brace with the Barber's Patent jaws. This is a quality non-ratcheting brace from the late 1880's era, the wood head and handle are rosewood, and the head rides on ball bearings. The Barber's patent jaws and chuck design was a favored design by many users during this period, with two removable jaws that are backed by a push spring. The jaw sleeve is marked "MILLERS FALLS CO. MILLERS FALLS MASS. U.S.A." and "PAT. JUNE 22 1880". There is also a model number on one arm of the brace, "NO. 42". Although the finish has darkened some, there is no rust on this brace, it is very clean and oiled, ready to use, straight, everything works are it should, plus the rosewood is in very nice shape with only a few minor dings to report, no cracks, the ball bearings work great! We do note just a few small areas of pitting on the crank arms, and a few small dings on the chuck sleeve, but overall a very nice quality U.S.A. made tool! |
