Here is how I began my small yet unique collection of glass flower frogs.
To say my dear late grandmother had a green thumb is an understatement.
She could plant a Popsicle stick in dirt and it would bloom! She had a
true love for flowers and her gardens flourished. As a child I remember
beautiful fresh cut flowers arranged with what she called a “frog” which I
always thought was such a funny thing to call a piece of glass with holes
in it. After she passed away I found a plain glass frog at a flea market
and because it reminded me of my grandmother I purchased it. You see
my grandmother had a rather clumsy knack for breaking everything and
I knew her frogs were long gone. My mother did recently discover one
sole remaining frog so I do have one of hers after all. I now collect mainly
English art deco style vases with flower frogs inserts and each time I look
at them I am reminded of my grandmother and her beautiful flowers. I
know she would think my collection was not only practical but truly lovely
just as her flowers were. I only wish I had inherited her green thumb!
