5 Piece Midgetoy Metal Toy Train, 1957 Patent Date

This is a collectible diecast metal toy Midgetoy train which rolls on hard rubber wheels concealed under the suggested molded metal side wheels. The five die-cast pieces can be hooked together via posts and caps with holes in them at the ends of the train pieces, but are also easily unhooked to change the order or use separately. Included is the old-style black Steam Engine which hooks into the black coal car or Train Tender. After this you can hook in any order 3 passenger train cars in red, green and yellow. Other than the wheels, there are no moving parts. Each of the 5 pieces are marked with the same raised molded letters and numbers on the underside, inside bases. This says, quot;MIDGETOY ROCKFORD ILL. U.S.A. PAT. 2775847 quot;. The Patent Number dates to 1957 and we have read that these train pieces were made by the A E Tool and Gage Company in the 1950's as part of their Midgetoys Midge toys line. When all hooked together, the 5 piece train measures about 20 1 2 inches in length, and you can roll the train backwards and forwards when hooked together that is, the wheels move fine . Individually, the steam engine measures about 4 1 4 inches long, the train tender about 2 3 4 inches long, the red and green passenger cars about 5 inches long, and the yellow passenger car just slightly shorter at 4 3 4 inches long. The red and green passenger cars are identical in style except for color, with similar window openings and top posts, etc. But the yellow passenger car is of a different style in terms of it's windows and having suggested central molded doors on each side this piece may be sometimes referred to as a boxcar, box car . This suggests that this car may have originally been part of a different Midgetoy train set, although we got them all together from the same home. Width-wise, the pieces measure about 1 3 16 wide, with the tallest pieces the red and green passenger cars measuring just under 1 3 4 inches in height. We have provided 8 images, showing the pieces in groups and linked together, with one image showing part of the manufacturer marking on the underside we guarantee that all the other words numbers we've stated are there on these pieces; we are limited in how many images we can include with this listing . Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the metal surfaces. These pieces were made with a base gray die cast metal. We do not know what metal was used in the manufacture, whether it was steel, lead or something else. We also don't know if there is lead in the paint. Therefore, we will only sell this 5 piece set to adult collectors, it should be handled with care, and it should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure. While nifty and collectible, these pieces were enjoyed and played with and are definitely not mint. You may be able to see in the images that on the steam engine there is a round brown spot area on the topside front. We suspect that this originally had a smokestack or something else where the brown circle now is. The brown spot looks to be some sort of dried glue as if someone had tried to keep something here by gluing it into place. Whatever was here we don't know and don't have. These pieces have a great deal of paint wear chipping, some dirt spots spotting and many, many scratches lines rubbed wear spots on the metal bodies. The basic paint colors are still largely there, but there is a lot of paint chipping wear, particularly on the green passenger car, but this is also widespread on the other pieces including spots at the front of the steam engine which look silvery from all the black paint being worn away. The wear is largely along all defined or raised edge details, showing the gray base metal coming through, but there is also wear in the broad paint areas. All wheel axels are rusted but the wheels themselves look very good for their age...there is expected wear from rolling around but not major flaws. The metal train pieces have a bit of tiny chipping on lower edges but not bad. On the red passenger car there is a small curved hole chip in one metal wheel area. On several of the passenger cars it looks like the vertical planks at the ends of the cars have been bent inwards slightly. Clearly not perfect pieces, but could still be a nice addition to a collection of differing train sets or one related to Midgetoys specifically. Could also be used within a town display or diorama or within a Christmas holiday town display setting.

Old Lead Toy Britains Ltd., England, Farm Animal Trough, As Is Legs

Collectible antique lead toy farm item made by Britains, Ltd., England. This is a toy trough for use with a farm animal play set or diorama or local scene for an old train set. The miniature trough is like those one would see on a farm for use in providing water or feed for pigs, cows, horses or other domesticated animals. We have indicated this is quot;as is quot; in the title because the 2 trough legs on one end are broken off such that one end of the trough sits directly on the ground, slanting the trough upwards to the other end which is supported still on 2 crossed legs. We have one of the broken off leg pieces as shown in some images, but the other is long gone. The trough measures 3 1 8 inches in length, about 3 4 inch in width to the trough portion and 1 inch in greatest width to the outer ends of the two legs on one side, and at the higher end sits about 3 4 inch in height. The manufacturer marking appears in raised molded letters along the underside edge of the trough, stating quot;Made in England by Britains Ltd. quot; This is hard to read with some letters worn, and even harder to photograph, but we guarantee this is there and what it says. We have provided 7 images to show multiple views including one in which we show part of the manufacturer marking we had to go very close-up to try to show the letters and it would not have been readable had we tried to show the full words all in one shot . Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the metal body. The trough coloring is light tan or beige with some green paint in many spots that we think may have been done to show suggested wear or mold on the wood as would occur in real life. From the style and type of piece as well as the manufacturer marking, we believe this piece dates to the early 1900's but are not toy dealers and do not know that for certain. It is definitely an old, antique or vintage piece which came out of an older home. The toy appears to be made of a base gray diecast or molded metal which could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen, and the paint on the piece could also have lead in it. As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care, and it should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure. Beyond the broken legs on one end, this antique toy shows much age and use wear. There is much paint chipping wear particularly along all edges, showing the gray metal underneath. There is also an unevenness or roughness to the edges along with some tiny edge chips. Some of this may relate back to old rougher manufacturing techniques but some of this is also use wear. On the outside or underside of the trough you can see the raised lines molded into the piece likely to suggest wood planks. Someone who is handy at repairing old toys could perhaps solder the one missing leg we have back onto the piece and create another one so that it fully stands as it once did. But even without doing any repairs, this farm trough might be usuable either propped up or as is within a toy farm display, train set display or in a Christmas holiday scene display.

TootsieToy Tootsie Toy Diecast Car Oldsmobile For Parts Orange Black

Collectible antique TootsieToy Tootsie Toy die-cast toy item, an Oldsmobile passenger car. While we don't know the exact age of this car we are not toy dealers , this is definitely one of the older Tootsie Toy cars as it has the old metal wheels. We have, however, listed this item as being quot;for parts quot; because it is missing one of the four wheels and has other damage to the front hood as will be explained. The collectible toy car measures 3 inches in length with the body about 1 inch in width, but the wheels present flare outwards rather than sitting straight giving this a greatest width of about 1 1 4 inches. It sits on a table with the front higher than the back due to the missing back wheel, giving it an overall height of about 3 4 inch. On the front of the car it has the molded name quot;Oldsmobile quot; at a slant. On the underside of the car you can see the raised molded letters for the manufacturer quot;TootsieToy quot; with part of the quot;Y quot; hidden under another piece of this car. We have provided 7 images to show multiple views including one of the manufacturer name which was very hard to photograph but you can see most of it in the image. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the metal body. The car coloring is orange and black with a gold or bronze metal coloring on the outer wheels. The toy appears to be made of a base gray diecast or molded metal which could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen, and the orange and black paint on the piece could also have lead in it. As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care, and it should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure. Beyond the missing wheel and the flaring of the other wheels, you can see in the image that on the front black hood close to the dashboard on one side the car has been crushed or dented in or dropped in such a way that the hood is cracked broken in this area with the black paint gone and the gray metal showing. The orange body part is still attached and in one good piece but loose. There is obvious paint loss wear on the orange piece particularly on the edges and in a large spot on one back bumper and a smaller spot on the other, with other expected use wear lines. The wheel axels are rusty with the one having the missing wheel curved bent. The remaining wheels look in good shape but with much expected age use wear. Someone who is handy at repairing old toys could use parts of this car for repairing other cars or might be able to fix up this one. Even without doing any repairs, this car might be usuable as is with some propping up and camouflaging within a train set display or in a Christmas holiday scene display...one could even have a figure placed near the car as if replacing a flat tire

TootsieToy Tootsie Toy Diecast Car or Truck Boat Trailer with Hitch

Collectible old TootsieToy Tootsie Toy die-cast toy item, a boat trailer with front hitch which could be used with a car or truck child's toy. This piece measures 4 inches in length, 1 3 4 inches in width and sits about 3 4 inch in height. It is orange in color with black wheels which we believe to be the older hard rubber wheels. The piece is marked on the underside in molded raised letters and or number in three spots. There is quot;TootsieToy quot; with a registration mark circle R and in another spot the number quot;2 quot;. In the third area it says quot;Chicago U.S.A. quot; We have provided 8 images to show the piece from varied views including two close-ups of the markings these were hard to photograph but you can see the letters words are there . The white quot;hot spots quot; in the images are lighting reflection from the camera on the metal surface. This is definitely an older, antique or vintage piece, although we don't know the exact age we are not toy dealers and just describe what we see . The toy appears to be made of a base gray diecast or molded metal which could be lead from similar pieces we've handled and seen, and the orange paint on the piece could also have lead in it. As such, we will only sell this piece to adult collectors, it should be handled with care, and it should not be given to children to play with due to concerns with lead exposure. The trailer is in good overall vintage used condition but it is definitely not mint. The wheels do roll but not all the time or easily, they roll roughly not smoothly. This appears to be due to one wheel having some wear use or side indentations marks which mar and push up a bit of the outer rubber surface on which the wheel rolls in one spot, creating a raised rough surface in this area to us it looks as if someone had gripped this wheel a bit in this one spot using pliers or perhaps this wheel once got caught in something else somehow which gripped it . There is other evidence of age wear on the wheels tiny lines indentations general wear but no quot;chunks missing quot; or cracks to the tires. The overall metal has a used worn look...the orange coloring is still there throughout, but the edges of the metal pieces show lots of tiny paint chipping with the gray base metal color showing through and the gray somewhat shows through even in the broad orange areas . This piece has clearly been played with and enjoyed, but there are no cracks in the metal or broken parts or pieces missing that we can see...all is there, just showing wear. Still a nice addition to any collection of these old TootsieToy die cast car pieces. Could also easily be used within a display set-up such as in a train set display or in a Christmas holiday scene display.

Wedgwood China University of Delaware Plate of Memorial Library

Very nice college plate made by Wedgwood, England. This is likely from a set of plates made to show buildings at the University of Delaware, likely from the main campus in Newark, DE. The plate is white or ivory colored china or ceramic it is not porcelain as it is not translucent with a raised rayed line pattern surrounding the central graphic on the lowered center portion. Beyond the line pattern is a raised ridge having a two leaf quot;V quot; design prior to the round outer edge. The central building graphic is of the front columned entrance of the Memorial Library on campus, with a tree directly opposite, all done in an engraved type picture in a darker, medium red to maroon red color it is not a bright red . The plate is fully marked on the backside with quot;Memorial Library, University of Delaware. quot; under which appears two circular marks. On the left is the Wedgwood of Etruria Barlaston, Made in England insignia. On the right is the insignia of the company which imported the plate for sale, marked quot;Sole Importers, Jones McDuffee Stratton Co., Boston quot; with a lion holding up a ball or globe in its paw at the center of the circular mark. The antique round plate measures just under 10 1 2 inches in diameter and sits about 3 4 inch in height. We've provided 5 images to show close-ups of the building graphic and the backside markings. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. We shot the plate at an angle since head-on the camera lighting reflection marred view of the central image too much. This creates a shadow which looks like a bit of darkening at the lower part of the curve under the building picture...rest assured there is no dirt or darkening here, that is a shadow. The plate weighs about 1 1 2 pounds unpacked, so this would ship via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail within the U.S. We are not certain of the age of this vintage plate, but guess that it may have been made in the 1950's or 1960's from other similar pieces we've seen. While in very nice, very usuable and displayable condition, this piece is not mint. There are no chips or cracks, but the plate is very crazed, not quite all-over crazing but well on its way to that. On the topside there are black pin dots and some black pin dot wear and other slight dark wear on the raised surface, particularly on the outermost raised rim prior to the plate edge. This is not bad but you will see it when you go looking. It looks to us as if something else might have been stored sitting on top of this plate in a closet over the years causing a bit of surface wear this is not anything you would likely notice hanging on a wall on display or just sitting on a table awaiting use . There are a few very light topside surface scratches or rubbed marks, but nothing bad, and you need to look closely at an angle in bright light to see these. There is a touch of light brown staining among the tree and its limbs and leaves, nothing bad and very hard to see in certain light, but we looked very closely. On the backside there is also a bit of light staining in the center as well as a more noticeable small brown circular stain. The backside has a touch of other age expected wear, nothing unusual. Overall, this piece has aged well. A neat older piece which will draw attention on display or hanging on a wall. Would certainly be a great addition for use in a set of these dishes relating to U Delaware. Would make a a great present for anyone who graduated from this terrific university, or currently works or attends there. Could also be a nice addition to a general collection of memorabilia related to Delaware, the First State.

Lovely 1979 Fitz and Floyd Deco Peacock Dessert Plates

Four nifty identical vintage china pieces made by Fitz and Floyd, Japan Fitz Floyd in 1979 as marked on backside, sold individually. These are round plates, dessert plate size with a diameter of 7 1 2 inches, sitting about 5 8 inch in height. Marvelous topside decor of a bird or peacock done in an art deco style with the bird in black white, set against a two tone brown color background. Fully marked on backside with pattern name, quot;Deco Peacock quot;, followed by quot;Fitz and Floyd, Inc. quot;, then the manufacturing date in Roman Numerals MCMLXXIX , followed by quot;Japan quot;. Under this appears quot;FF 79 quot;. We've provided 4 images of one plate to show close-ups of the bird and the manufacturer marking. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. Also, the camera lighting distorts the lighter brown tone a bit. The darker brown coloring on the left side of the plate is a rich medium chocolate brown similar to what appears in the images. But the brown color on the right side of the plate appears somewhat tan in the images, when in person it looks much richer, more like a dark sand or sienna color brown ...we're not sure how to describe this color. We're sorry that the camera doesn't show the true color here but please understand that the plates look even better and more intense colored in person than appears in the images. Each plate weighs about 10 ounces unpacked, so the shipping package for just one plate will likely weigh over one pound packed. Excellent overall condition, with no chips, cracks, or crazing. Two of the plates are as close to quot;like new quot; as we've seen on china pieces, with no scratches or major flaws, looking unused to us. On very, very close inspection at an angle in bright light there may be a touch of topside wear on these two from plates sitting in a stack for years, but we don't see any scratches or the usual kind of use that one sees with something that was used. The other two plates do have light topside scratches, one of them having more than the other, which you only see when looking at an angle in very bright light; no one would notice these sitting on a table or on display as we missed seeing them at first. While these two then were used, they are still not bad, and still very attractive and usable. Terrific older pieces which will draw attention on display or hanging on a wall. Would certainly be a great addition for use in a set of these neat dishes. Would also make a nice addition to a collection related to birds in general or peacocks in specific, or a great present for a peacock collector. Priced each.

Stangl Pottery Amber Glo Amber-Glo Dinner Plate

Retro 1950's ceramic pottery piece, a dinner plate made by Stangl Pottery in their Amber-Glo Amber Glo pattern. To us this pattern has a look which reminds us of the American Indian with its brown feathers or brown leaves along with gray and yellow tear-drop forms with other light brown dots and wavy brown lines inbetween and encasing part of the decoration. The base plate background color is white or ivory, with a medium-colored chocolate brown along the outer rim and on the underside of the plate. Round plate measures about 10 1 8 inches in diameter and sits about 3 4 inch in height. Fully marked on backside with printed oval Stangl mark stating quot;Stangl Pottery, Trenton, N.J. quot; with the pattern name quot;Amber-Glo quot; printed underneath. There are also two painted letters which may be the initials of the person who did the hand painted coloring on this piece, perhaps these letters are quot;Ey quot; We've provided 8 images to include several close-ups of the topside pattern and condition, as well as the manufacturer mark. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. As you can see in the images, there are a number of light brown circular stains on the topside of the plate which are noticeable. The topside surface also has many, many small scratches, rubbed areas and other surface wear this may not be apparent in the images but is definitely there . This is a vintage plate which someone enjoyed using While not noticeable from the top or on display, along the outer rim of the plate and along the backside rim there are a number of small surface chips and flakes, including one larger chip along the backside rim measuring about 5 8 inch in width. The backside also has scratches and age wear to the underside base rim on which the plate sits. There are no cracks or crazing, but please understand that this old piece while having a neat pattern clearly has flaws which you will see in person on inspection. Still would look nice hanging in a room on display at a distance, particularly in a kitchen hanging along a higher border for a neat pattern design look as people often do with plates. Could also be used as an extra plate for serving food as part of a set.

Southern Potteries, Blue Ridge Pottery, Yellow Mayflower Dinner Plate 11B

Southern Potteries, Inc. Blue Ridge Pottery ceramic dinner plate in their Mayflower pattern in the yellow color. Round plate measuring 9 1 2 inches in diameter and sitting 3 4 inch in height. Fully marked on underside base with the black printed circular mark including a graphic of mountains and a pine tree stating quot;Hand Painted-Underglaze, Blue Ridge, Made in U.S.A., Southern Potteries, Inc. quot; with what we believe is a piece designator underneath, quot;11B quot;. We've provided 5 images including close-ups of the painted flowers and the manufacturer marking. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the high gloss surface. While the plate looks fine on display and just seated on a table, on close inspection in bright light you will see that topside there are many, many small and medium sized surface scratches and rubbed marks as this vintage item was clearly used. This old piece, however, has no chips, cracks or crazing. There are some other pin pit dots, tiny black and wear dots spots, etc., general use, and some scratches on the underside. Still usuable as an extra dinner plate with your existing set, or adding nice color in a country setting hanging on display on a wall or in a cabinet.

Liberty Blue China Old North Church Teacup Saucers Only

Lovely Liberty Blue China Teacup Saucers, sold individually. We have only these saucers, not the tea cups which would have been placed on them. Each saucer measures about 5 11 16 inches in diameter and sits about 3 4 inch in height. Basically round with just a little flatening to the side rims to simulate the 12 sided nature of the other pieces see other Liberty Blue listings . While there are some very slight color differences among the saucers as is often seen with manufactured items, all are basically a medium dark blue coloring on a base white china which is ironstone. Please note that other pieces in this pattern set are labelled on the backsides as Staffordshire Ironstone. These pieces do not have that labeling likely due to their smaller size and corresponding smaller backside surface area but are presumed made of the same ironstone as the other items in this pattern. These were produced as part of a set of china showing different colonial scenes at the center of the various pieces, surrounded by a floral graphic. The saucers are all identical, showing the Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts, with the church identified on the backside of all of the saucers. From a bit of research, we believe these were made in the 1970's to commemorate the bicentennial, and may have been given away by A P Grocery Stores. Some sites reference that this pattern was produced by Enoch Wedgwood, but the pieces are not marked with this so we don't know that for certain. All marked on reverse side with quot;Liberty Blue, Historic Colonial Scenes, Old North Church, Made in England quot; within an eagle insignia. We have provided 6 images showing close-ups and the marking on the reverse side. Please note that the white quot;hot spots quot; are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. The lighting also lightens the blue coloring a bit. In person it is a true medium blue tending towards a navy blue coloring, although the coloring does go lighter and darker within the graphic on the piece. All saucers are in wonderful overall condition, with no major chips or cracks. Most of the saucers also have no crazing; one saucer is crazed with large line crazing. While purchased from a home where they had been used by the owner's former relative, the use flaws are minimal and do not detract from their great look. There are some topside slight surface scratches the amount varies by saucer with some having no almost no scratches, overall nothing bad or unusual, and only seen when looked at closely at an angle in bright light . There are stray blue transfer dots on the topside and in some cases, stray blue transfer lines, as well as some raised pottery dots, pin and pit dots. On the backsides, while this varies by piece, there is also some stray blue dots from the transfer process, pin pit manufacturing dots, surface scratches, slight glazing flaws, and some slight expected wear to the underside base rims on which they sit. Two saucers have a bit of light brown or orange spot or line stains but none of this on the topside . Very attractive and very usable pieces to add to your current set or start a new one. Please see our other listings for other pieces of this pattern. Could also be hung on a wall or displayed in a cabinet as part of a colonial decorative motif.

Liberty Blue China Independence Hall Dinner Plates, England Staffordshire Ironstone

Lovely Liberty Blue China Dinner Plates, sold individually. Each measures about 10 inches in diameter and sits about 1 inch in height. Basically round with 12 flatened sides to rim. While there are some very slight color differences among the plates as is often seen with manufactured items, all are basically a medium dark blue coloring on a base white china which is ironstone. These were produced as part of a set of china showing different colonial scenes at the center of the various pieces, surrounded by a floral graphic. The dinner plates are all identical, showing Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the location identified on the backside of most of the plates perhaps this didn't transfer on a few of them; on one plate instead of Independence Hall most of the word quot;Church quot; shows which must be an error in transfering as Old North Church appears on a different piece in the set . From a bit of research, we believe these were made in the 1970's to commemorate the bicentennial, and may have been given away by A P Grocery Stores. Some sites reference that this pattern was produced by Enoch Wedgwood, but the pieces are not marked with this so we don't know that for certain.
