Pair 1920s Tiny Figural House Feather Tree Glass Christmas Ornaments

These unusual tiny mercury silvered feather tree figural glass Christmas ornaments were made in Japan in the 1920s. Just 1-1 2 inches high by 1-1 4 inches high, they're brick or stone houses painted gold with red doors, green chimneys, and purple shingled roofs. The ornaments have some paint wear as shown, and there's some inner mercury loss at the back of one. This ornament still has its original metal cap, the other lost its cap some years ago and it was replaced with a slightly rusty steel bobby pin for a hanger. Miniature Japan ornaments of this age are scarce, especially such detailed figurals.

Purple and Silver Corn Flower Glass Christmas Ornaments

These 1950s West German glass Christmas ornaments are some type of bumpy silver flower with purple petals or leaves. Decorated differently, they could almost be small ears of corn. There are three, painted identically. They are 2-1 4 quot; high by 2 quot; wide and have a slightly flat shape - viewed from the side they look like oval pods. The metal caps are marked West Germany. Slight paint wear to the purple petals, otherwise excellent, shiny condition with no damage.

Tri Colored West Germany Glass Pine Cone Christmas Ornaments

These three very pretty pinecone glass Christmas ornaments were made in West Germany. Between 3-1 4 quot; and 3-1 2 quot; long, they are blue at the tops, yellow-gold at the centers, and bright pink at the bottoms, an unusual decoration. All three are lightly coated in white mica glitter to simulate frost or snow. The metal caps are marked West Germany. The ornaments have some inner silvering loss apparent only when held up to the light. Light mica wear, not bad, no chips or breaks.

Father Christmas on Oak Leaf 1930s German Glass Ornament

This 3 quot; silvered German glass oak leaf ornament has a very well defined Father Christmas style Santa Claus figure embossed in high relief on the front. The ornament has some pink tinting at one side and the bottom - it may have been made that way, though it's more likely that the rest of the color has faded or worn away over the years. The back has some pale green and yellow tinting at the upper leaves. The silvering is still very reflective with good interior coverage except near the pike where it has started the normal and inevitable process of degradation. No chips or breaks. This ornament is listed in a popular price guide as being American but that is in error - it's definitely pre-war German.

Red With Mica Stripes Unsilvered War Glass Barrel Christmas Ornaments

These four 1940s unsilvered war ornaments are especially nice and very scarce. They are 2-1 4 quot; high, ringed barrel or accordion shape, painted a deep transparent cherry red. The rings of the barrels are thickly coated in mica glitter stripes - one band of white at the center, two bands of blue mica above and below. This shape ornament is usually found with Shiny Brite metal caps, but all of the ornaments have caps marked Made In U.S.A. The ornaments were made at the Corning Glass factory and sold to a number of manufacturers who decorated them and marketed them under their own brand names. Some of the metal caps have rust specks, otherwise the ornaments are in wonderful condition for their age with little to no wear to the finish and mica. American unsilvered war ornaments were only produced for two or three years during World War II and are by their very nature scarce and finite in quantity as soon as the war ended the manufacturers went back to producing silvered ornaments . They are highly collected today and will only increase in value as their numbers dwindle from loss, breakage, and absorption into private collections.

Wine Cask Barrel With Grapes Glass Christmas Ornament

This unusual silvered glass Christmas ornament is in the shape of a wine cask or barrel, about 2-1 4 quot; wide by 2-1 2 quot; high. Decorated in red and silver with white mica staves, a molded cluster of blue grapes with green leaves is in the center. An ornament similar to this is shown attached to a clip in the Lightner Christmas Rarities book - this one was made in Germany before 1940. Very slight color and mica wear but overall very good condition for its age.

4 Shiny Brite Unsilvered Stenciled Glass Christmas War Ornaments

A scarce set of four 1940s Shiny Brite unsilvered Christmas ornaments made during World War II when silvering agents were unavailable for all but military use. Stenciled or screen printed war ornaments are not unheard of but they are unusual, and I've never seen this particular design before. The 2-1 4 quot; ornaments are pinkish-red at the tops, clear at the bottoms with thin horizontal faded blue stripes in the centers. White snowflakes, bells, and ornaments decorate the centers all the way around, printed over the blue stripes. The ornaments have the distinctive Shiny Brite USA metal caps and are in good condition with normal wear to the graphics consistent with age - a few random light scratches to the white paint and transparent pink coloring, the above mentioned fading to the blue rings, and some dust inside the ornaments. A rare and special find for American war ornament collectors.

2 Premier Unsilvered WWII Glass Grape Cluster Christmas War Ornaments

These 1940s glass Christmas ornaments by Premier Glass Works are relatively rare. They're in the shape of grape clusters, which alone would make them scarce from an American manufacturer, but they are also unsilvered war ornaments - made during World War II when rationing and shortages of silver nitrate forced ornament manufacturers to use painted, sprayed or flashed transparent colors. The grapes are 2-1 2 inches tall. One is transparent red, the other blue. The finish is excellent on both with no scratches and deep, even coloring. Both have the unmarked but distinctive Premier metal caps. These ornaments are hard to find.

Blown Glass Pipe Christmas Ornament Hand Painted Flowers

This mouth blown German pipe Christmas ornament is a little more than 4 inches long. It's a quot;blowie quot; - when you blow into the stem, the thin metal disc embedded in the bowl causes a flute-like sound. The pipe is green with a silver stem and has hand painted flowers and leaves on one side. There's some normal silvering loss - the ornament has a near transparent look when held up to the light. Typical darkening of the glass from mercury deterioration near the pike and some paint wear as shown, no chips or breaks. Dates to the late 1930s, possibly post-war period.

Victorian Large Wire Wrapped Horn Glass Christmas Ornament

This antique German free blown glass horn ornament is from the Victorian era. It's shaped more like an old fashioned ear trumpet for the hard of hearing rather than a musical instrument type of horn, about 7 quot; long with a bent long stem and upturned bowl. The ornament is wrapped in strands of thin curly gold wire which has suffered a few breaks and shifted over the last hundred-some years. Originally painted flat, unsilvered white with perhaps a red or pink rim, much of the paint is gone now. The only damage is a sliver chip at the pike opening. Old Victorian ornaments like this were usually hung by their wires or a tied-on strand of tinsel or thread, but I'm including a plain wire hanger no metal cap for the buyer's convenience in hanging on the Christmas tree.
