Beswick Sleeping Dog on Drum

Beswick Dog Asleep on Drum, Model 812, is from the Beswick Comical Animals and Birds line. It dates from around 1940, and does have some crazing, but no chips. It has a sticker showing that it was sold at Niagara Falls, Canada. On the base is the oval Beswick stamp, along with the incised 812, and what look to be painter marks. Hard to find, it is not listed in my copy of the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Beswick Animals. Nor is it shown in the 1994 limited edition catalog of Beswick. It is described, however, in the Beswick Price Guide of Harvey May where is lists for 70 to 80. My price is half of the low or 35.

Sebastian Miniature Tom Sawyer is 2.75 quot; tall and carries a of 1948 P W Baston. He s in wonderful shape, along with the fence and the cat. This piece has the characteristic brown shellac of the Marblehead pieces, and could certainly use white-washing, if you wanted it to be white. It looks great as it is, however, with excellent paint throughout. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. Just a small slice of America in beautiful condition.
