Circa: 1974 Type: PLATES Manufacturer: Royal Bayreuth
WEDNESDAY/MENDING, #3 in the Sunbonnet Babies/ Royal Bayreuth Weekday/Workday series. A large 'T' is in the middle of the crest from Tettau, West Germany. Seven 7 1/4 inch plates , set # 8559, came in just one large box from a 28 day run in 1974, original price $12.50 each. Molly (Mollie?) & Mae May, the Sunbonnet babies, were created by Betha Bertha L. Corbett - an American artist around the early 1900's. She had no confidence in her ability to draw faces, so she hid them behind sunbonnets. She targeted her art toward helping children develop healthy personal character traits and teaching them their daily chores (washing, ironing, sewing, sweeping, dusting, baking, & fishing/going to church). Some variations were identified as the Beach Babies and the Snow Babies. No box/certificate. |
