Circa: 1959 Condition: Used Type: Stapled Manufacturer: U.S. Gypsum Co..
Here are two issues of a magazines titled The Business of Farming, published as an advertising and promotional piece for lumber companies in rural areas. Both have an imprint for FRED L. WARD LUMBER, Marshalltown, Iowa on the back cover.
The 24-page magazines were published by U.S. Gypsum Co. and showcase many of their products of the 1950s -- Sheetrock gypsum wallboard, Perf-A-Tape joint reinforcement, Rocklath plaster base, Red Top plaster, Texolite paint, USG sheathing, Sealco roofing and Quietone ceiling tile.
Articles deal with both new and remodeling ideas for farmhouses built with panels; the design of a modern farmstead; remodeling a single family home into a duplex; improving the family room and kitchen; building a large-capacity cattle feeder and a safe cattle loading chute; repairing leaking faucets, window and door screens; designing new dairy buildings; ideas for boosting farm production and saving labor; ideas to maximize use of space; remodeling rooms for children; building storage areas for adults; and constructing a sewing room/home office. Discussion, plans and illustrated directions are provided.
The magazines are in Very Good condition with some very slight cover scuffs. The back cover of one is separated from the spine, but can be easily repaired. These provide great 1959 advertising, lumber, farm or building materials information! (t2396)
