c. 1833 American MILLITARY BUTTON MAKER TOKEN

NOTICE

********NOW OPERATING FROM OUR NEW HEADQUARTERS ********

Now fully operational from the beautiful Pacific North West, we encourage all to keep a close eye as we unpack posted offerings and continue what will be an ongoing effort of unpacking the collection while taking stock with an eye toward thinning out our accumulation of treasures. After years of seeking out and acquiring all manner of quality antique Americana from simple but seldom surviving items of special interest to historically important treasures, Janet and I look forward to offering the fruits of our years of seeking out such to new and appreciative homes.

Manufacturer: H. M. Hall’s

This attractive 28.5 mm copper token was struck as an advertising copy of the American Institute medal of excellence received by Robinson’s Jones & Co in the fall of 1833 for their metallic buttons. Located in Attleboro, Mass., Robinson, Jones & Co. were button makers from early 1828 to November of 1834 when Jones sold out and the firm continued as R. & W. Robinson 1848 when the well known maker of Civil War uniform buttons Daniel Evans took over. The name of R. & W. Robinson saw continued use by the Evans firm well into the 1850s however. All original and as found with a bit of pocket wear and a rich age patina this token will be a neat memento for the military button collector as well as the advertising Americana enthusiast. (see: Bazelon & McGuinn "Directory of American Military Goods Dealers & Makers" )
