This is a good antique adjustable bicycle type wrench marked "AETNA PAT. AUG.16.98", near the end of the handle section. It measure 5.5" long overall. This wrench is clean, works smoothly, not rusty, some minor wear on the jaws mostly, straight, in good working order, good threads. The carriage or slide on this one is apparently designed to be a speed wrench, as one can disegage the thumbscrew from the threads by pushing the front section of the slide. It's jaws open to about 1.3". This wrench was patented by Herbert C. Hart, as a partner of UPSON & HART in UNIONVILLE CT., which later became THE UPSON NUT COMPANY. Perhaps not the best designed wrench, but unique. A rare wrench! |
