This August, 1945 issue of The Palimpsest magazine, published by the State Historical Society of Iowa, features major articles on Indian Affairs in Iowa in the mid 1800s; the 1845 assembly of the Sauks and Foxes near Fort Des Moines to prepare for their migration west of the Missouri River; and the tremendous 1882 explosion of a powder storage pit in Oskaloosa that killed two young boys. Details of the blast are quoted from the local newspaper.
