Circa: 1960 Manufacturer: Noritake/Made in Japan
This vintage Noritake set of 6 oblong side dishes with a centaur in gold with gold trim has the N mark in the Laurel Wreath on the bottom, dating these dishes to after 1953, when the M was replaced with the N, according to my Koval's Book of Marks. I have not been able to find the name of this pattern. If any one knows I would appreciate an e-mail. How different to find the pattern of the Centaur on them. The centaur is a noble being, having the legs and body of a large horse and the torso, arms and head of a man. These people are strange and rare, generally living a solitary life in the woods or hilly country. They are often well versed in horology, astrology and astronomy and are wise, serious people. Some centaurs are magicians or sorcerers, which is not surprising considering their natural talents and intelligence. Luckily they are usually good people - but not a good idea to get on the wrong side of a wrathful centaur! In very good condition, without chips, cracks or fleabites they measure 1 1/4 inches deep, 6 3/4 inches long and 4 inches wide. A versatile shaped dish that could be used for condiments, candy or nuts. An addition to any Noritake Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking. |
