Circa: 1970 Manufacturer: Bradford Novelty Company/Made in Hong Kong
This plastic clown in colors of light and dark green, red and brown, Christmas tree ornament was made in Hong Kong for the Bradford Novelty Company in the 1970s. Bradford was one of the pioneers in this field, since the source of glass ornaments was eliminated during the war years, Mr.Jack Burnbaum, founder of this company was the first person in this country to develop plastic items to hang on a tree. They were vacuum plated to create a shiny appearance made to resemble their glass counterparts, but were unbreakable. Some of the first available were a Santa, bird and reindeer. The first were quite detailed and realistically painted. Once accepted, the silver color was dropped and the ornaments were manufactured of colored plastic to match the particular figural according to my Christmas Through The Ages Book by Robert Brenner. In it's original un-opened package he measures 3 1/4 inches tall and 2 inches wide. An addition to any Vintage Bradford Plastic Christmas Ornament Collection. SH & Ins will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking. |
