~ THE COVER ARTIST - ~EMMA MUSSELMAN WAS an illustrator in the 1920's for Ladies Home Journal and other publications. ~Emma was an artist for the fashion ads both in magazines and newsprint. ~She also made paper dolls for some publications. I OBTAINED SOME INFORMATION THAT SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE MUSSELMANN~PRODUCE COMPANY~ Emma Musselman WAS BORN IN 1880~ DIED IN 1966 M. Emma Musselman beautifully drawn in a two page article with all the latest fashionable attire for the lady of SPRING 1910 taken from the March, 1910 issue of Woman's Home Companion Magazine. IT IS A TWO large 12 x 17 pages with a scene of four women on a veranda in lovely and elaborately embroidered dainty dresses and natty suits for spring with images of the actual National Cloak and Suit catalog surrounded by a sample of the fabrics of 1910. This is a wonderful example of the deft artistry of M. Emma Musselman and a lovely black and white image of this by-gone era. Paper dolls and toys followed in Woman's Home Companion throughout the 1920s: Henry Anson Bart and his paper toys, dolls by fashion illustrator Emma Musselman, Frances Tipton Hunter's MUSSELMAN, M. EMMA Interior Artwork; Ladies Home Journal Sept’09 Interior Artwork; Woman’s Home Companion Mar ’15 Ladies' Journal. He was the publisher, and she was the editor. ~ The supplement quickly developed into a magazine, which was named Ladies' Home Journal and became a prototype for other women's magazines. It was still being published at the beginning of the twenty-first century. M.E. Musselman may have been Emma Musselman, a fashion illustrator for Ladies' Home Journal. She was an illustrator in the 1920's for Ladies Home Journal and others.
Crowell Publishing Company was founded in 1878 by editor John S. Crowell, Springfield agricultural manufacturer
P. P. Mast and Mast's nephew Thomas Kirkpatrick. It acquired Woman's Home Companion (originally Ladies’ Home Companion) in 1885. |
