Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, in 1927, Joaquin Crespo Manzano studied at the School of Arts and Crafts P. del Rio, where he also taught painting and printmaking for 38 years. He was also deputy director of the Academia de San Alejandro for 2 years, and has won several awards in Cuba and Leizing, including first prize for figurative works at the 1959 Cuban National Drawing Salon. In this series of etchings, Manzano addresses the impact of the 1973 Chilean coup d'état.
