Cross pendants first appeared in Finland in the 11th century, even before the northern crusades. In the beginning, they were mainly carried by men, with their other good luck charms.

Finnish craftsmen added their own stamp to the cross motif, which came from both the east and the west.

The model for this two sided pendant is a silver cross dating back to the conversion of Finland to Christianity in the 12th century.

This model is made by Kalevala koru, Finland.
