Circa: 1980
This beautiful cameo collector plate, The Taj Mahal Lovers, was sculpted by Carl Romanelli is the Second issue in the Great Romances Of History Collection. The Great Romances of History Collection had 4 plates that I know of in the series. Out of which I have the first two listed seperately for sale. Please see item # next to name: 1979 Antony and Cleopatra (#roosantony2935), 1980 The Taj Mahal. 1981 Lancelot and Guinevere 1982 Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton Handcrafted in solid Incolay stone by artists at Incolay Studios in the year 1980. The Taj Mahal is the tomb built by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal who shared an empire with him. Crazed with grief upon her death in childbirth in 1631-an old account says simply, when she died, he was in danger to die himself. The Shah never wavered in his all consuming passion for his beloved during the lonely years until he was finally entombed at her side. Sculptor Carl Romanelli gives us his triumphant vision of the lovers reunited at last, placing them before the Taj as they could never have been in life. A solid metal plaque is affixed to the back of the plate which does have light scratches which I have shown in my pictures. Incised into its brushed brass finish, in addition to authenticating information, is the plate #08477 SP, the Bradex #84-31-3.2 and the year it permanently closed 1980. In it's original box with Certificate of Authenticity it also comes with 1 booklet and has the artists signature on the front. In very good + condition without chips, cracks or fleabites it measures 10 inches in diameter. An addition to any Plate Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions feel free to contact me and thank you for looking.
