Circa: early 1900's-30's Condition: Very Good Manufacturer: Addis J. B. Sheffield England
This is a very nice early 1900's era gouge chisel marked "J.B. ADDIS & SONS SHEFFIELD ENGLAND 10 PRIZE METALS 26". A very nice flat sweep, short bent, fish tail spade gouge chisel with a slight arch in the width of the chisel giving the user a better cutting position, sometime call a curved gouge. In the old Addis catalog, the No. 26 is the minimal sweep gouge, combine with about the maximum bent front shape. The steel alone measures 5.70" long from the sharp cutting edge (out-channel) to the handle. The chisel overall length is 10.6". The handle has a good brass ferrule, no cracks, nice looking, very solid, well attached, a few dings on the brass ferrule of the handle. A top quality chisel that has lasted many years! In very good condition overall! |
