Circa: Late 1800's Condition: Good+ Manufacturer: STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. NEW BRITAIN CONN. U.S.A.
This is a good antique adjustable throat block plane type no. 18 w/knuckle cap cover, made by Stanley in that late 1800's era. It is marked with the "FEB.20.94" patent on the throat adjustment lever, and has the "STANLEY DEC. 28.86" patent mark on the cap cover, and the "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. NEW BRITAIN CONN. U.S.A." rounded top logo on the cutter. The 1.62" cutter is clean and sharp, plenty of length left for feature sharpening. This one is clean, no rust and has about 60% of it's Japanning intact. The cap cover has some minor pitting on it, and the plane side walls have some scratches that appear to have been made by a saw, perhaps the owner's mark as it appears to be intentionally done, but the bottom of the plane has very minor wear and scratches, no rust active now. This plane also has no lateral and cutter depth adjustment, as per early design. The bottom is flat, clean and ready to use. The plane is 6" long x 1-5/8" wide cutter. A nice, clean, very collectible plane!
