Manufacturer: Columbian Enameling & Stamping Company of Terre Haute, Indiana
A solid red coaster made by Columbian Enameling & Stamping Company of Terre Haute, Indiana - it has an interesting backstamp showing an eagle and under that is written: Columbian Made
Size: 3-3/4 inches across
Condition: vintage, used, has a few chips to enameling
Comments: This company has been in continuous business since 1871, first in Bellaire, Ohio, then in 1890 it moved to Harvey, ILL. That plant was destroyed by fire in 1899 and they then re-opened in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1902, where they have remain in business for over 100 years. Mostly they seemed to use paper labels, so I’ve not found any with this type backstamp before.
A vintage postcard had this information about this company: Columbian Enameling and Stamping Company, Terre Haute, Ind. Cut accurate in detail and drawn to scale. Capital invested over $1,000,000.00. Actual floor space under roof, eight acres. Number of employees, over 1,000. Capacity, six car loads daily in double coated ware. Equipped with electric power and lights in duplicate units.
