Circa: 1920's-30's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: T.R. ALMOND MFG. CO. ASHBURNHAM MASS. U.S.A.
This is a rare antique, 2-3" precision outside micrometer marked "ALMOND CO. ASHBURNHAM MASS. U.S.A." on one side, and No. 139-3" on the other side. We know that this company was originally owned by Thomas R. Almond, and we operated in Brooklyn N.Y. from 1879-1904, then in 1904 it was sold to Charelton A. Hubbell who moved the company to Ashburnham Mass. in 1907 and re-named the company T.R. ALMOND MFG. CO.. Hubbell did patent a micrometer caliper in 1918, No. 1,267,075, that may apply to this microter as well. A later patent was granted by the U.S. PATENT OFFICE on DEC.26.1922 also for a micrometer caliper. This is the first we have seen of the style by this company, with the cast A in the main frame on both sides. The micrometer is in very good condition both in appearence and useable condition. It has been calibrated and is accurately set, very little if any wear noted, no rust, no damage, very good condition. It comes with a calibration wrench in good shape, and a fitted velvet lined wooden case, also marked with the maker's name on the outside lid. The black leather material on the exterior has worn off the wood case in some places, and one end wooden piece is missing of the case, otherwise solid condition with good hinges and latch. Truly a very rare micrometer by The Almond Mfg. Co., particularly in this size! |
