Circa: 1920's Condition: Good++ Manufacturer: North Brothers Mfg. Co. Philidelphia PA.
This is a very nice, clean 1920's era, early version of a ratchet spiral screwdriver! It is marked "NORTH BROS. MFG. CO. YANKEE NO. 130 PHILA PA. PAT'D APR.16.95-NOV.2.97-SEP.5.99-OCT.9.00-MAY.1.06-NOV.3.08-MAY.4.15 OTHER PATS. PEND.", on the main nickel plated brass shaft. This screwdriver is in very nice working order with a good solid hardwood handle that has minimal wear, a few dings, no cracks, nice smooth finish. This screwdriver is the mid-size that Stanley made in regards to tooling, or the tips that fit into the chuck, they are the .280 (9/32") shank diameter size. Stanley bought out North Brothers in the late 1940's, and tooling for these screwdrivers remained the same for Stanley production, as North Bros.. The chuck holds a variety of different slot Phillips type screwdriver tips, that we usually have in stock as an option. There is two different size slot bits included with this screwdriver, both in very good used condition. There is little wear noted on the screwdriver, a few scratches and minor dings, about 95% like new, with about 97% nickel plating intact. In very good mechanical condition also, a few scratches noted on the spiral shaft that don't effect use. This one has a good strong rapid return spring, on the spiral system, so it springs back after you push it in to drive a screw, and there is a knurled ring at the end of the main shaft so you can lock the spiral shaft part inside and use only the ratchet or as a standard screwdriver if you wish. We generally have hex head bit adapters and other tips, including drill adapters, in stock for this size screwdriver if you wanted to use it like a push drill as well. A nice one! |
