This COOPER SHOP VOLUNTEER REFRESHMENT SALOON pay receipt is dated just one month before Gettysburg when thousands of Union volunteers were streaming though Philadelphia and filling the halls of the most well-known soldiers respite of the Civil War. The receipt, dated June 4, 1863, makes record of the payment of $5.00 for wages for the Cooper Volunteer Saloon. The payment is made out to Sarah Ewings. A fun research project for those who enjoy such. In our preliminary effort we found that Sarah was the wife of Samuel Ewing who had enlisted and mustered in as a Pvt. of Co K 186th Penn. Infantry on May 16, 1864. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!! Thanks for visiting our catalog!!
