Circa: 1950 Manufacturer: Flygsfors Glass/Made in Sweden
This exquisite glass bowl designed by artist Paul Kedelv is signed on the bottom: Flygsfors / Coquille. The company was established in Sweden's Smaland District in 1888, and changed hands several times. In 1939 Willhelm G. de Morr was named first art director, and in 1949 he hired Paul Kedelv, who remained with the company till 1956. While there, he first created the Sidenmatt line, in opal glass crisscrossed with fine black lines; the Coquille line, for which he is the most famous; and in 1955 his Fantasy line, free flowing glass sculptures which were an offshoot from the Coquille line. The word coquille means shell in French. Pieces made after he left in 1956 were signed or labelled Coquille. Those made before his departure are signed Kedelv. They also generally include the year of manufacture. The series was made until the late 60s. The Flygsfors company was bought out by Orrefors in the 1970's and closed in 1980. The colors are layers of white and orange encased in clear glass. In very good + condition their is wear to the base which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 3 inches high, 3 5/8 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches across the base. An addition to any Swedish Art Glass or Paul Kedelv Collection. SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed /. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
