This type of free blown glass bird Christmas ornament was made in Germany in the late 1930s and again in 1950s Western Germany. It could be from either time period. The bird's body has a blue tinted center indent on both sides and is about 6-1/2 inches long overall, including the 2 inch spun glass tail. It's decorated in red, white, and blue with hand painted stripes, comma-stroke leaves and flowers on the bird's back, neck, and belly. The bird's glass crest, beak, and eyes are painted gold. There are no chips or breaks but there is a little finish wear to the painted decoration and the glass fiber tail likes to slide out. You can easily secure it with a dab of white glue.
