This antique Germany thin glass ornament is shown in the Lightner Book "Christmas Rarities, A Pictorial Collection of Rare Antique German Glass Christmas Ornaments". The one in the book is gold whereas this one is red. It's 3-1/2 inches tall and depicts a pine tree with an embossed painted Santa Claus face and three pink and white mushrooms around the bottom. The tree has white painted snow frosting. The Santa face is painted flat white with a red hat, red mouth, and blue eyes. Some of the white face paint was worn away including one of the tiny blue eyes, but the Santa is still clearly distinguishable, as the mushrooms, although one has lost much of its paint.
The super-thin glass ornament has no chips or breaks and no damage other than the paint wear you can see in the pictures. Natural deterioration of the inner mercury silvering has caused a transparent effect.
