This delicate festoon necklace is done in brass. There are 3 delicate filligree squares each 1 inch square with a red floral cinnabar center. From the center square hangs an asian style dragon pendant with a round cinnabar drop set in brass. There are 2 more of the round drops as well as rectangular pieces with, I believe, Chinese characters on them. There are also 2 small square brass drops both just 1/4 inch square for symmetry. Each of the cinnabar pieces are prong set in place. The round cinnabar pieces are about 1/2 inch wide. Two brass chains connect the necklace to a box clasp that is also decorated. The necklace is in very good shape but I have not cleaned it. I believe the red pieces to be cinnabar but I cannot see any carving so they may be molded. I am not familiar with cinnabar jewelry so please email me with any questions or if you would like additional photos. I will leave that up to your judgement. I would say this necklace dates from the early 1900's and may be as late as 1920's.
I have had this necklace for a number of years and am just now putting it out for sale.
The necklace measures about 14 1/2 inches and the bottom pendant is 3 inches long. I can't find any markings on the necklace to indicate a maker. It is just a really cool vintage piece. |
