Circa: 1885 Country of Origin: Germany Manufacturer: Victorian Era German Production
This very rare 1800s German unsilvered glass Christmas ornament is trumpet flower mounted on a tin spring clip and wrapped in gold crinkly wire. The pink and creamy-white flower has a deliberate depression in the center where perhaps a fabric or tucksheer stamen was placed. About 3-3/4" high by 2-1/4" diameter, it's larger in size than many antique ornaments from this era and in wonderful condition.
There is only a little wear to the matte painted finish and the ornament is securely attached to the clip with no give or sliding. The picture showing the top of the ornament makes it appear as though there's a hole in the center but there are no breaks in the glass, what you see is the inverted pontil and some flaking of the painted finish. The almost paper-thin glass has no breaks or chips.
