WHAT IS "MARY GREGORY" GLASSWARE? "MARY GREGORY" is the term used throughout the English-speaking world to describe glassware of any color or design that has been painted with white enamel, particularly depicting children at play. The term first appeared in the 1920s. Originally only human figures were included, but now any animal or scene might be termed "Mary Gregory." This book is designed to teach how to evaluate Mary Gregory glassware. It is not intended to be a typical glass reference and identification book. By using the information on these pages, the reader will quickly be able to assess the quality and ultimately the value of any piece of Mary Gregory glassware encountered. The photos selected for this book offer the reader an opportunity to examine a variety of styles of glassware and decorations. Knowing what to look for, what's good and what's bad, what's old and what's new, will greatly enhance the pleasure of collecting Mary Gregory glass.
