Circa: 1940 Country of Origin: Japan Manufacturer: Pre War Japan Import
These 1940s beaded Christmas floral decorations were designed as gift package decorations or trims but were often used as impromptu ladies' corsages. The original card has six mounted trims made with foil leaves, wired mercury glass bead flowers, tiny pinecones, and red lacquered holly berries. All have paper Made in Japan labels. Printed on the card is "Christmas Gift Package Decorations Designed Exclusively for F.W. Woolworth Co., 29¢ Card". If the entire card was only 29 cents, it may date to earlier than the 1940s.
The decorations have some wear from age and storage. Some of the lacquered berries have split, the pinecones have some crushing damage, and it looks like some beads are missing. I have added two newer (1950s) package trims to the assortment. One is a used gold foil gift tag card (there is writing inside) with berries, green bottle brush trim, and red satin bow. The other is a lacquered holly leave with berries, wired glass beads, a sugar glittered reindeer, and red bow. The tip of the upper leaf is chipped off.
