This rare 1920s Irwin Santa Claus and sleigh Christmas mantle, windowsill, or tabletop display comes in its original box. It's almost 15 inches long and features a standing celluloid Santa Claus holding a basket of roses in a glittered cardboard composition sleigh which is driven by two large celluloid reindeer with red ribbon reins. All three celluloid pieces are marked Irwin Made in U.S.A. and all are in wonderful condition with no splits, holes, or damage.
The pieces are mounted on a heavy fiberboard base painted white (now ivory colored) with white mica and iridescent clear glitter "snow". The sleigh is stiffened cardboard coated in iridescent glitter, 5 inches long by 3 inches high. Santa is about 4 inches high, the red eyed reindeer are about the same height. The only damage is a bump or bruise to the back edge, shown in the 4th photo. The sleigh and base have of course darkened some with age and are no longer bright white which just adds to the nostalgia and antique look. The box is only fair condition with some inner tape repairs, chipped edges, and age discoloration but it has certainly done its job in providing protection and storage for the display. One side of the box is marked Irwin Plastic Playthings No. 207, Made In U.S.A.
