Circa: 1939 Country of Origin: Germany Manufacturer: Pre War German Import
Very rare German silvered glass Christmas ornament depicting an Indian holding a peace pipe. It's double piked and was made that way. I suspect the metal caps at the top and bottom aren't original but they were there when I purchased it. Hanging from the bottom is an old stamped brass bell charm - I don't know if it is original to the ornament either but I doubt it. Brass charm dangles are typically found on Victorian era ornaments - this ornament likely dates to the late 1930s.
The Indian is about 4-1/2 inches long from pike tip to pike tip, painted in shades of brown, tan, rust, and dark green. The molding is exceptionally well defined. There's some loss of the inner silvering at the top of the feather head dress and upper pike, otherwise the silvering is very good. The bell charm has a small spot of corrosion in the center. A very unusual and hard to find ornament in any form.
